The Palmetto Combine Series Summerville event on April 1 is going to kick off the entire four-block series with a bang.
One of the biggest talking points might be the signal callers who will be spaced out throughout the morning and afternoon. Quarterbacks from the class of 2024, 2025 and 2026 are going to be front and center trying to elevate their status, fend off challenges from younger players or prove to everyone that their 2022 seasons were no fluke.
Chanston Crosby Chanston Crosby 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Bamberg-Ehrhardt | 2025 State SC Bamberg-Ehrhardt
Crosby is part of an insanely talented quarterback crop for the Class of 2025. Case in point: He’s our ninth-ranked QB in that class but the No. 33 overall player. (Like we said, insanely talented.) Crosby has a great chance to move up in the next 10 months, though. After all, this is a 6-foot-2 signal caller who is accurate, mobile and only beginning to get into his zone. He’s already got a quick-snap release and finds ways to step into throws fluidly, even if he’s on the run. Think stepping over some blocking pads will cause issues?
Samari Bonds Samari Bonds 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Beaufort | 2025 State SC Beaufort
Bonds might be remembered for some time as the quarterback who won a state championship game without attempting a pass. But the scheme itself wasn’t so much a knock on him as it was a compliment to the Eagles’ late-season rushing prowess (tough to argue with a title ring). Still, Bonds has some serious skills, and while they were somewhat shelved at times during his freshman season, they won’t be forever. During the Summerville combine, Bonds will get his shot to show off his arm strength and accuracy unlike he’s ever done at the high school level.
Edward Reidenbach Oceanside Collegiate
Reidenbach (pictured) was one of the individual success stories on an Oceanside roster full of them last fall, when the Landsharks played in the Class 2A state championship game. They fell to Abbeville, but Reidenbach’s 323 passing yards in that title game not only served as his career high, it pushed a guy considered to be more game manager than hurler into a different realm. We can’t wait to see what he does against the rest of the 2024 quarterbacks in this environment.
Tavien Orellana Tavien Orellana 5'11" | 185 lbs | QB Philip Simmons | 2025 State SC Philip Simmons
Some might say Orellana has grit. We think it’s more than that. In a good way, he’s flat-out stubborn. After his career opener – a 19-point win, by the way – the 5-foot-11, 160-pounder only had one “bad” game the rest of the season. He was efficient, completing 61 percent of his passes, while having no issue getting enough air under the ball to hit some really long passes (six completions that netted 50+ yards). Orellana’s short throwing motion works well under pressure, and maybe even better without blindside consideration. He’s going to get an on-field push this spring from teammate Damarion Rowe Damarion Rowe 5'4" | 140 lbs | RB St. Petersburg Lakewood | 2026 FL , but for now he’s got the lead spot at Philip Simmons.
Jaden Cummings Jaden Cummings 5'11" | 195 lbs | QB Summerville | 2025 State SC Summerville
The mid-year transfer from Hanahan is going to be attracting a ton of eye balls during the South event because it will be some of his first viable action on his new home turf. This was a player who put up 1,500 combined yards and 13 total touchdowns for a team that was very much in flux last season. Since moving to Summerville, he’s already started to build the bridges necessary to lead an offense that is loaded with talent. If he puts up a decent performance in the combine setting, it might just lead to even more comfort leading into spring ball with the Green Wave.
