Here are the quarterbacks who are making their debut in the rankings.
Ruff had a great junior season once his receivers got healthy. He tied the school’s single-game touchdown record that his brother had set the year before.
His release is very quick and the ball jumps out of his hands. Receivers at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase were very impressed with his arm strength. He’s a solid athlete who tested pretty well in the speed drills as well.
Ruff will be doing virtual junior day visits with some Ivy League schools and I expect his recruitment to pick up a bit this spring.
Sandoval was not asked to do a ton in Upland’s offense, but he managed the games well and made some high-level throws.
He has great touch on the deep balls and throws well off-platform. He showed good accuracy even when rolling to his left. He’s a solid athlete who can scramble and hurt you with his legs. He doesn’t make many mistakes and I expect Upland to rely on him more next season.
Sandoval has no offers yet but a good offseason on the camp circuit would be great for him.
Threatt is a stellar athlete who played a lot of receiver last season. He runs track at Bellarmine College Prep and is also a high-level baseball player.
He had a great showing at the RVC Showcase last weekend and got good reviews from 247Sports. As a thrower, he has a smooth delivery and shows flashes of good arm strength.
Threatt is drawing attention from Ivy League schools and has shown he is a gym rat this offseason.
Highlights
O’Brien is the starting quarterback for a Liberty team that has had massive postseason success recently.
He has great touch on the deep balls and can stay in the pocket and take hits as he throws. He also can sprint out and throw off-platform.
O’Brien is a good athlete who also plays basketball at Liberty. He’s a great student and I expect his recruiting to pick up this spring and fall. UC Davis has shown interest.
Silvia put up big numbers as a junior for Culver City last season.
He reads defenses well and is accurate to all three levels. His release is on the slow side but the ball comes out of his hand nicely.
Silvia had a solid showing at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase in January and competed with some highly-ranked quarterbacks.
He’s active on the camp circuit and Culver City has done a great job of developing quarterbacks in recent years.
Highlights
Vasquez is a guy I think should be ranked higher than he is.
He stands tall in the pocket and knows when to fire in a strong throw and when to put touch on a deep ball. He’s a solid athlete who can scramble and make good decisions with the football. Sometimes his footwork falters under pressure, but he still can deliver a good ball when in less than ideal situations.
Vasquez is a good student who has solid film and would be a good addition to a lower level college’s quarterback room.
Highlights
Young has only played football for less than two years but has quickly become a top quarterback in his area.
He has some arm talent and tools, but what impresses me is his understanding of the offense. He goes through his reads well and has great timing with his receivers. He knows when to throw certain passes against certain coverages which some high school quarterbacks struggle with.
Young can afford to add some size, but his intangibles are great according to reports and he has advanced football knowledge for a guy with his experience level.
He went to a camp at Harvard and is on the 7-on-7 circuit now.
