Here are the quarterbacks who are making their debut in the rankings.
Bennett was the starter for Oaks Christian last season and completed 66 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns.
His release is quick and his timing is good with his receivers. He has a good grasp of pass protection because he always seems to know which side pressure is coming from. He’s not a dual threat quarterback but he moves well in the pocket and can scramble when needed.
He had a good showing at the Throw Down event and has reportedly improved his arm strength.
Bennett has eight offers including Hawaii, Liberty and Utah State.
Conroy tested very well at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase and had one of the best L drill times of the day.
He has solid arm strength and is fluid in his decision making. Conroy is a good enough athlete to roll out and make plays out of the pocket. He throws a good deep ball and is poised under pressure.
Conroy has no offers yet but will be one of the best players at Taft next season, which is undergoing a bit of a makeover as a program.
Highlights
Hughes got some meaningful snaps at quarterback for San Marin last year and threw three touchdown passes in the State Championship game against Granada Hills Charter.
His release isn’t the smoothest but he showed flashes of plus arm strength. There is a play on his film where instead of throwing the easy five-yard enter route, he throws the corner route for a 35-yard touchdown.
Hughes is a good athlete who San Marin uses often in the zone/read game. He’s a big body who runs hard and it tough to bring down.
Highlights
Lee is a dual threat quarterback who runs like a running back. He is a long-strider who can really fly in open space. You can tell that he gets excited when the coach calls a quarterback draw.
He’s a solid thrower but he isn’t asked to do a ton in Jesuit’s offense. He likes to throw outside the hashes against man coverage and cover 2 and has the arm strength to do so.
This is a big offseason for him on the camp circuit and he definitely needs to add some muscle, but he is a good enough athlete to play at the college level.
Highlights
Sanchez has moments on film where he looks great. He is a very good off-platform thrower who loves to sprint out to either side and find receivers down the field.
His arm strength improves greatly when he gets to stay in the pocket and set his feet. He can still throw the deep ball when on the run, but it sails more than when he is in the pocket.
He takes some risks down the field and sometimes it pays off. Hueneme had a good running game and solid offensive line last season and Sanchez managed the offense well.
Sanchez is a solid athlete and the weight room will be his friend this spring.
