Which new players are on the rise?
Lets take a look…
Tyshon Reed Jr. – EDGE – Colquitt County
One of the quickest defensive lineman in all of South Georgia, it’s about time that Reed Jr saw some offers come his way. A lean defender at 6-foot-3 215-pounds, the Colquitt County standout lived in the backfield last year and flashed easy D1 potential on a consistent basis. He’s lightning quick off the snap and can blow up a play in the backfield with ease. A versatile defender who can play outside linebacker as well, Reed Jr is coming off a big junior season where he made just 33 tackles, but 10 of them came in the backfield. He can stop a drive with any big play, and the big plays can come at any point. He shows a great motor and runs really well for someone on the defensive line. He got to the quarterback twice last year but pressured the quarterback another 14 times. He was a menace and tough to handle for bigger, slower opposing offensive linemen. Reed Jr is seeing his stock rise on the recruiting trail and added a recent offer from Ole Miss. Look for more to come his way sooner than later.
Ameir Glenn – DT – Langston Hughes
One of the top interior defensive line prospects in the Atlanta area, Glenn is a quick, powerful lineman who knows how to shed blocks and get into the backfield. He’s strong in the upper body and uses his quick hands to get off blocks. He’s a thick body in the middle of Langston Hughes’ defensive line at 6-foot-2 300-pounds and does a great job of playing with leverage. He gets his hands under the pads of opposing linemen and drives them backwards. He’s an excellent run defender, shooting gaps and closing running lanes, making the ball-carrier go in a different direction from where the play was originally made to go. The 6A state champion was a impactful defender and made plenty of flashy plays throughout the season. He’s tough to handle for just one lineman and has the size and ability to play at the next level. His recruitment is finally starting to take off a little bit, and he recently added a new offer from UCONN. He was as productive as any interior defensive lineman in the state last year, making 125 tackles, 6 TFLs and three sacks.
AJ Pigford – DE – South Gwinnett
2022 was a tough year for the South Gwinnett Comets, but there was a bright spot last year, and that was productive EDGE defender, AJ Pigford. An active defender at 6-foot-2 230-pounds who lived in the backfield last year, Pigford was tough to handle for most of the opposing offensive linemen he went up against last season. A true under the radar EDGE defender and one of the best in the area, Pigford showed active hands and a great motor, chasing down the ball-carrier all season long. He’s a promising pass-rusher as well who gives it everything he has every play. He’s looking to make a play, and he can be too quick for most offensive tackles in the region. He has D1-caliber talent and saw multiple offers come his way in late January from Liberty, Troy, UCF, among others. As a junior last year, Pigford made 19 TFLs and 9 sacks, proving to be one of the more underrated pass rushers in Gwinnett County.
