For us at PrepRedzone, we try to dive deep into the state and find players that can play at the next level across all classifications. Today, we take a dive into several prospects whose recruitment is just now kicking off, or has yet to begin. With so much talent in the state this year, we are continuing to find guys throughout the offseason.
Throwing over 2,049 yards and 26 touchdowns, Stone quarterback Connor Tice Connor Tice 6’3″ | 180 lbs | QB Stone | 2024 State MS elevated his team to the 4th round of the playoffs this season. Tice stands at 6’3″ 175 and has a great build for a next level quarterback. He shows plenty of room to continue filling out over the next year as well. Mechanically, the rising senior has a smooth release with little hitch to it and can throw from a variety of arm angles. Tice shows the ability to navigate the pocket at a high level and can use his athleticism to extend plays when it collapses. With his gunslinger mentality, Tice is not afraid to air the ball out all over the field. He has a great deep ball and is not afraid to give his receivers chances to make huge explosive plays. Tice is an accurate passer at all levels of the field and throws with good timing as well. While he currently holds no offers, Tice is the kind of player that can easily begin garnering some attention during the offseason this year.
The quarterback and running back of Brookhaven High School, Xavier Gayten Xavier Gayten 6’0″ | 190 lbs | RB Brookhaven | 2024 State MS projects as a next level college back. At 6’0″ 190, Gayten has great size for the position and can continue to add weight over the next year. As a runner, Gayten does a great job on gap scheme runs and can easily set his blocks up for huge gains. Gayten is an explosive back who can put his foot in the ground and go. He explodes to the second level and can kick it into a second gear to get to the end zone. In the open field, this is the kind of back that can do it all. Gayten can make defenders miss with his quick twitch or simply power right through them. He has great contact balance and refuses to be brought down by arm tackles. Holding an offer from Mississippi State, Gayten is not an unknown commodity, but is still early in his recruitment process.
Highlights
A 6’1″ 170 wideout out of Olive Branch High School, Britten Traylor Britten Traylor 6’0″ | 165 lbs | WR Potts Camp | 2024 State MS is an intriguing prospect who had a big last season. Traylor is a speedy outside receiver who projects as a college level X or Z. At the line of scrimmage, Traylor has a smooth release against press coverage and can use his rapid foot fire to quickly gain some separation. Once he gets by, he does a great job at stacking on top of the cornerback covering him, making the quarterback’s job easy. When the ball is in the air, Traylor can use his length and athleticism to go over top of defenders to make some athletic catches. On short breaking routes, the rising senior can make defenders miss with his athleticism and kick it into another gear to outrace the defense to the end zone. Although he currently holds no offers, expect Traylor to pick up some looks this offseason throughout the camp circuit and coaches coming by his high school.
A powerful 6’4″ 280 pound tackle prospect out of Horn Lake, John Randle John Randle 6’4″ | 270 lbs | OL Horn Lake | 2024 State MS is a player with a ton of promise for the next level. Randle has great size for the position and will most likely continue to add muscle over the offseason. As a pass protector, Randle has smooth feet and a nice initial punch. He does a great job at mirroring the incoming rusher and set a strong edge. With a nasty mentality that offensive line coaches love, Randle will finish every block through the whistle and leave his man in the dirt. As a run blocker, Randle can play in a variety of blocking schemes, but excels in zone blocking. He plays with great pad level and can use his natural strength to clear easy paths for the ball carrier. Recently, the rising senior added his first offer from UNLV, but should expect to continue to hear his name called throughout the offseason.
A 6’3″ 270 pound tackle out of Ridgeland High School, Cyson Burk Cyson Burk 6’3″ | 270 lbs | OL Ridgeland HighSchool | 2024 State MS projects as a college level guard. Burk is an extremely athletic big man who does a great job at playing in space. The rising senior has great feet and can pull in gap scheme runs, or be a lead blocker in the screen game. As a run blocker, Burk plays with good leverage and uses his hands well. He doesn’t overextend and uses his strength to move defenders where they do not want to be. As a pass protector, Burk slides well and can mirror rushers movements. He does not give up a ton of ground and give his quarterback great blind side protection. Although he is a tackle right now, it is hard to not love his potential at the next level as a guard that can pull and be used all across the run game. He currently holds no offers, but expect Burk to add some attention soon. Athletes are hard to come by on the offensive line.
