As one class graduates, the next senior class becomes the primary recruiting target from college programs. The class of 2024 has previewed elite talent among its ranks with players who have proven themselves as legitimate college prospects capable of playing at the highest level.
This article will briefly examine five wide receivers from the 2024 class who should be high on the recruiting boards, especially for the in-state programs.
Eckhardt is a player who immediately stands out on and off the field. He is quick out of his release and does an excellent job of eliminating space between the defender or freezing him with a shifty move. He uses his size and strength to keep the corner’s hands off of him while using his overall speed to outrun secondaries. His athleticism allows him to make outstanding plays, especially when the ball is in his hands.Eckhardt is a big player with a solid frame and formidable strength, making him a tough ball carrier to bring down. He completed his junior season with 551 yards and four touchdowns, helping to earn an offer from Colorado State University.
Ciccio had an outstanding junior season that ended with a trip to the 3A state championship game. He is a dangerous athlete capable of doing significant damage to a defense’s secondary, especially in the quick and intermediate game. He does a great job creating space from cornerbacks when coming out of his breaks and uses his impressive speed to gain a solid chunk of yards after the catch. Ciccio completed last season with 1,240 yards–5th-most in the state–and 15 touchdowns, making him a receiver that should interest college coaches.
Latimer is a talented athlete who will undoubtedly be a steal for a college program. He is an outstanding athlete and strong route runner with excellent catching and run-after-catch abilities. His ability to slip through secondaries and find open spaces overtop and underneath makes him a dangerous opponent that defenses must account for at all times.Latimer racked up 1,110 yards–8th-most in the state–and 12 touchdowns after a junior performance that landed him in the sights of a few college programs.
Micah Lumpkin
Micah Lumpkin
Lumpkin has gotten some recognition but still seems relatively new to the prospect radar. He is a powerful route runner who shows impressive speed from his stem. His overall speed allows him to stretch the field deep and run past the secondary, while his physical playing style makes him willing to go up and get the ball while running through the middle of the field. He shows excellent athleticism and concentration when making tough catches. Lumpkin finished his junior season with 1,286 yards–second-most in the state–and 12 touchdowns, making him a player that college coaches should want to see in person.
Milton Samuel-Cortez
Milton Samuel-Cortez
Samuel-Cortez is a low-flyer on the radar with extraordinary talents as a wide receiver. He has shifty releases with excellent speed and good size on a solid frame. He runs crisp routes and quickly gets in and out of his breaks while getting his head and eyes around to locate the ball. His athleticism and reliable catching abilities make him an ideal one-on-one target and threat in the red zone.Samuel-Cortez was the go-to receiver last season, with 343 receiving yards and three touchdowns out of a team total of 749 passing yards and five touchdowns. With his team having a run-heavy scheme, he was able to showcase his physicality and strength as a blocker. Samuel-Cortez is an under-the-radar player who could be a serious FCS sleeper.
