Continue ReadingFor my 3rd article on the WPIAL I am going to focus on the top players in 4A and 5A that I have not already discussed. This is led by Aliquippa which is a 4A program, and known as one of the best programs in the state. Aliquippa is coming off a State Championship game where they lost to Bishop McDevitt. Another prominent school in this ranking is Gateway. Gateway produces a lot of good football teams and players.
Brad Birch Brad Birch 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Gateway | 2024 State PA Gateway. A classic pocket quarterback that can also move around and make plays with his feet when it is needed. Birch throws with great anticipation with the football. He does a great job recognizing the match up and then he will exploit it with a good throw. Birch does not have the strongest arm, but makes up with it by throwing the ball to spots where the receiver can make the play. He also has shown a great ability to throw the ball in tight windows. Birch also excels at hanging in the pocket and taking a shot. Birch running ability also cannot be discounted. He might not be explosive in the run game, but he has good moves and can always run for positive yards. With a good senior year Birch should find a home to play CFB at.
Cameron Lindsay Aliquippa. Lindsay is a dynamic athletic linebacker who can run sideline to sideline making plays. His ranking as the 2nd best linebacker in our 2024 class shows how legit he is. He is a very physical linebacker that is not afraid to hit someone very hard. Lindsay also reads and reacts very well from his linebacker position. He can also shed blockers well and can then chase down ball carriers very well. Lindsay is also very good open field tackler and can easily drop in coverage and cover different players. He projects as a 3 down linebacker at the next level. He projects as a high division 1 linebacker.
Brandon Banks Brandon Banks 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Aliquippa | 2024 State PA Aliquippa. Another Aliquippa player, this program is loaded. Banks is a really good cornerback prospect. He can play both press man coverage or drop in coverage. On his film I saw him excel at both areas. What makes Banks an excellent prospect is his hips. He can turn and run with the best of them. When he is in press man coverage he is excellent at getting his hands on the wide receiver and then running with them. He is also good when the ball is in the air and constantly makes plays on the ball. Finally Banks is excellent at coming up and tackling from his defensive back position. Banks projects as a high division 1 player at the next level.
Remy Bose Remy Bose 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Gateway | 2024 State PA Gateway. Bose is a heavy hitting classic middle linebacker. Bose plays the game very physical and when you get hit by him you know it is coming. One of the biggest areas of strength is his blitzing. He is so good at the delay blitz and waiting patiently for the offensive lineman to start their blocks and he explodes through the line to sack the quarterback. He is also adapt at reading and reacting to the play that is unfolding and then coming up and making the tackle. He is also a play maker who makes ton of plays in the backend of the defense with interceptions and tipped balls. Bose is a really intriguing prospect going forward that many CFB programs will check out.
Kam Eggerton Kam Eggerton 6'1" | 195 lbs | LB Thomas Jefferson | 2024 State PA Thomas Jefferson. A technically sound linebacker who makes up for the lack of size by playing angles very well at linebacker. Eggerton is also a sure tackler who takes on blockers very well and then comes up and finishes the tackles on players. Eggerton is also good at reading and reacting to the offensive lineman blocks and then coming up in making the play. He can also drop back in coverage and cover certain players in the flat. Eggerton a good player who should have a chance to play CFB in the future.
Quinton Goode Aliquippa. Well we will finish with Aliquippa player and conclude with there quarterback. Goode is an underrated player who can make every throw at the QB position. He makes up for his lack of size by throwing with anticipation. He is very good on sprint out packages where he can identify the open players and make the correct throws. Goode, constantly just makes the right decision to where and when to throw the ball. In a a lot of ways he is a good point guard who can pass the ball to his play makers all over the field. Goode with a strong senior year should get plenty of looks at the college level.
