Mekhi Gatson
Mekhi Gatson
Gatson is a lethal player off of the edge for the Eagles defense. Gatson showed great acceleration when blitzing and played his role as contain man perfectly. He displayed great reaction speed, letting the play develop, and then attacking the ball when it becomes visable. Gatson is a player who does not just go into a pile blind. He locates and makes the play. Gatson plays with a high motor and can play as an inside or outside backer, playing comfortably in the open field or covering the slot. He earned 2nd Team All District Honors because of his play and expect him to hit the field even better next season.
Trevin Lucius
Trevin Lucius
Lucius is a gap blitzing machine who was second in the district is sacks for a reason. He is relentless in his pursuit and is a player who does not stop until the whistle is blown. Lucius plays fast at all times and has a one of the best motors you’ve seen. He has nearly perfected his jumps on snap counts and can find himself in the backfield before the opposition knows what has hit them. Lucius shows little wasted movements on his way to a quarterback and plays downhill with a focus on making negative plays. He can be a gamechanger when the moment calls for it and can flip the momentum with one play with his ability to get into the backfield.
Jaylen Carter
Jaylen Carter
Carter racked up over 100 tackles last season and put his skills on full display. He always found himself around the ball, making plays. Carter is versatile and a true baller. He is very comfortable in coverage, making plays on the ball and running step for step with players in man coverage. He has very good speed, blitzes with a purpose, and is a secure tackler especially in the open field. Carter is without a doubt a bright spot on the Bulldog defense and will be a top name to keep eyes on heading into next season.
MarQvicci Holden
MarQvicci Holden
Holden is an aggressive inside backer who takes on blocks with force and can disengage with ease to make a tackle. He has a good size to him and showed good strength and speed last season. Holden plays the run extremely well, whether it is his job to spill or scrape, he gets the job done. Holden will be looked at to make even more plays and be the guy on the defense next year.
Jacory Johnson
Jacory Johnson
Johnson is a hybrid backer. A player who can play anywhere on the field and a player who just gets the job done. He is an exceptional click and close player, who is quick off the snap and has a nose for the ball. Johnson has the speed to chase a play down from the backside and shows great coverage skills to play in the secondary. He is physical at the point of attack and just has that dawg in him. He is definitely one to keep tabs on heading into the season.
Keegan Demmer
Keegan Demmer
Demmer was the districts leading tackler, tallying over 150 tackles last season. He showed that he was a physical player, taking blocks head on and making TFLs like it is nothing. Demmer is quick off of the edge and his pursuit to the ball in second to none. His ability to shed blocks is one thing that stood out on film. He was quick to disengage and make the plays needed. Demmer is a very exciting player to watch and that will definitely continue next season.
