I can’t name a single position in sports more vital than the quarterback in football. These three players possess the confidence to win, and the skill to back it up. It’s unfortunate that these QBs are generally lesser-known for one reason or another, but I’m happy to bring them to your attention today!
Aiden O’Brien Aiden O’Brien 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Lawton | 2024 State MI | Lawton | Hudl
Aiden O’Brien Aiden O’Brien 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Lawton | 2024 State MI is a one-of-a-kind player for Lawton. It’s extremely rare for a school with less than 300 total students to have such a dominant Quarterback, and here we are! I know a few people who are very high on Aiden, and much of that is thanks to his off-season work and success. The rankings are based on college readiness, so usually, a QB that doesn’t pass much is, unfortunately, less sought-after by colleges. Aiden’s X-Factor is his off-season training, as he’s proved himself as a passer. As expected, most of his highlights are run plays, but when he does pass in-game, he’s spot-on.
Cooper Nye Cooper Nye 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Airport | 2024 State MI | Airport | Hudl
I’ve been high on Nye since I first watched his tape just over a year ago. Seriously, go watch his highlights right now. He has some amazing cross-body throws, touch in tight windows, improvisation, and more. The timing on some of Cooper’s best throws is impeccable, and his best highlights are some of the best in the state. He went 96/163 (59%) on the year with 1,678 yards and 14 passing TDs.
I did my best to dig deeper with Nye when I was doing rankings. Unfortunately, none of his games are on NFHS, but I was able to scout him a bit more from opponent highlights. What I saw there is a bit of inconsistency and unnecessary risk-taking. In general, he needs to do better under pressure. When confronted with a potential sack, there are many instances where he A. Takes the sack when he has time to throw away or B. Makes an ill-advised throw. In a way, Cooper Nye Cooper Nye 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Airport | 2024 State MI reminds me a bit of Josh Allen as he was heading out of Wyoming. At Wyoming, Josh Allen had obvious upside with his rocket arm and playmaking ability, but he had some serious turnover issues and was prone to bad plays. Cooper has some spectacular tape but also has some major holes in his game. I still really need to see Cooper in person, but my gut tells me that he deserves a Divison 2 offer or D1 walk-on opportunity.
I would absolutely love to see Cooper at our Prospect Showcase on April 8th!
Tyler Herzog Tyler Herzog 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Avondale | 2024 State MI | Avondale | Hudl
Ultra-competitive, a hard worker, and showing consistent & significant improvement. Tyler’s film showcases a great ability to command an air-raid style offense, and he has some excellent throws in his film. Most of my evaluation of him didn’t come from his Hudl though, it came from offseason camps I’ve seen him at + Week 3 vs. Seaholm. Against Seaholm, Tyler was able to get hot early in the game and make some big throws. He was constantly under pressure from Seaholm’s top-tier front 7, but I was very impressed by his ability to extend the play and not panic. Early on in the game, Tyler showed his competitiveness and got hot quick after a few great throws and loud heckling from the student section. Tyler did slow down in the 2nd-half, but he still led the Jackets to 29 points in the loss against a Seaholm defense that proved to be terrific all season. In fact, Avondale scored more points against Seaholm than anyone except Farmington.
Over the past few months, I saw Tyler at a couple camps. Overall, he was solid. Honestly, he didn’t blow anyone out of the water, but he was far from the worst tester / performer. He was above average at worst at the camps he’s attended, and knowing what he’s capable of on the filed plus having a bit of knowledge of how competitive he is, the #89 ranking is well deserved. I am confident that Tyler is a solid Division 3 College Prospect.
