Trevon Salas
Trevon Salas
Salas had a breakout freshman year that turned some heads. Salas rushed for 846 yards and that came with splitting carries. Salas figures to do the same thing this year but he should be able to keep production for both backs if they continue to be explosive it is a dynamic 1-2 punch. Salas is quick when hitting the hold but he does follow his blocks and has the power to punch it in near the goal line. The Grizzlies are a more run favored team and this also will help Salas as he will be able to get a good chunk of carries, especially if they are able to jump out to a lead it. Salas can be a back to take on the lead role and if he is able to show that explosiveness it will be hard to overlook him as well as this team moving forward.
Symalla is a physical runner and it takes multiple defenders to take him down at times. Symalla is a player that can get on top of you quickly and fights through the arm tackles. Symalla shows good vision and will setup his blocks creating running lanes for himself. Symalla shows soft hands and the ability to make a difference in the passing game, he is also a willing blocker sticking his nose in there and helping his team out in the process. Symalla as a freshman showed the tangibles that take a lot of kids until they are an upperclassman to learn. Symalla figures to be the lead back and he should definitely be a guy to watch moving forward as I think with his skill sets Symalla has a chance to have a breakout season, propelling himself into top running back in his league category.
Highlights
Colton Lucero
Colton Lucero
Lucero split the backfield last season but was the most productive back out of the three. Lucero will have a backfield battle this year as well but he has an opportunity to take over the lead position if he is able to continue the number he put up this year. With half of the carries the other backs got Lucero was able to post similar numbers which is why I think the job will be his if he is able to build upon this in the offseason. Lucero is a back that can bounce it to the outside and turn on the burners using his speed.
Jacob Adamic
Jacob Adamic
Adamic will look to have a big year as the Tigers will lose duel-threat quarterback which figures for Adamic to be the person with the most to gain from the situation. Adamic showed some explosiveness against Pueblo County where he was able to punch it in multiple times. Adamic might be in line for the starting quarterback position so he might not be on this list for long but if he stays at running back he does figure to be a back with a lot of speed and can make plays in the open field. Doesn’t get many opportunities in the passing game but can catch it out the backfield if asked.
Dante Dupuch
Dante Dupuch
Dupuch is a shifty back that get in and out of breaks quickly making the defenders miss when he gets into the open field. Dupuch doesn’t mind lowering his should either and running through a defender. Dupuch figures to step into the lead role for the Mustangs as the lead back will be graduating. With Dupuch explosiveness and ability to make people miss he should be a top guy to watch for as he figures to crack 1,000 yards this year if he is able to produce with added carries. He has good vision and was able to top 100 yards in one game as he was also able to punch it in 3 times on the ground as well.
