Both [player_tooltip player_id='247558' first='Tate' last='Petersen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='104723' first='Gavin' last='Phillips'] excelled at the wide receiver position in Class 2A this past fall.

Petersen, a senior from Monticello, and Phillips, a senior from Des Moines Christian, each went over 70 catches and 1,100 yards.

Two more from 2A had over 800 yards receiving and several others reached double-digit touchdown totals.

But none were as successful as either Petersen or Phillips.

First Team - [player_tooltip player_id='247558' first='Tate' last='Petersen'] - Monticello - Senior

With 89 receptions for 1,307 yards and nine touchdowns, one cannot overlook the production of [player_tooltip player_id='247558' first='Tate' last='Petersen']. The Monticello senior had a career-year, leading all of Class 2A in receptions and yards.

Petersen recorded 43 tackles, with 33 being solo stops, picked off two passes and averaged double figures on kickoff and punt returns.

Second Team - [player_tooltip player_id='104723' first='Gavin' last='Phillips'] - Des Moines Christian - Senior

Had it not been for [player_tooltip player_id='247558' first='Tate' last='Petersen'] at Monticello, Des Moines Christian's Gavin Philips would have stood tall in Class 2A. Phillips caught 73 passes for 1,127 yards and scored 12 touchdowns, averaging over 15 yards per catch.

Phillips also helped the Des Moines Christian defense with 19.5 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. He also had two special teams touchdowns, averaging 35 and 15 yards per kickoff and punt return.

Third Team - [player_tooltip player_id='573617' first='Reece' last='Vander Zee'] - Central Lyon/George-Little Rock - Junior

The Central Lyon/George-Little Rock offense will look different next year with [player_tooltip player_id='152617' first='Zach' last='Lutmer'] at Iowa, but that does not mean they won't be scoring points. Look for even more out of talented junior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='573617' first='Reece' last='Vander Zee'], as he put up 768 yards and 10 touchdowns this past fall, averaging 24 yards per catch.

Vander Zee is likely to slide over to quarterback after attempting eight passes with two TDs this past year. He also had 22 tackles and picked off four passes on defense.

Honorable Mention

[player_tooltip player_id='247557' first='Gabe' last='Winterrowd'] of OABCIG, [player_tooltip player_id='152854' first='Landon' last='Arends'] from Osage and Williamsburg's [player_tooltip player_id='248037' first='Derek' last='Weisskopf'] all hit double figures in receiving touchdowns. Jesus Vega of Clarke and Grahm Nason from West Marshall averaged over 22 yards per catch. Waukon's Noah Pearson also had a big-time season.
