Thanks to a strong running game by Team Nasty, they came away with a 38-20 win. Here are some of the more outstanding performances we witnessed during the game.
Offense
Cooper Johns Cooper Johns 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB River Bluff | 2023 State SC , RB, River Bluff
Johns was named the games MVP after rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns. The big thing for Johns is he was inserted into the rotating lineup whenever Team Nasty needed a conversion in short-yardage situations. Both of his scores came on short runs and he kept the chains moving several times. He also showed a solid ability to make cuts in the open field and make guys miss. He rushed for 1,871 yards in the regular season and could be a real steal for a program at the next level.
Dawan Rice, RB, CA Johnson/ Alias Graham-Woodberry Alias Graham-Woodberry 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Gilbert | 2023 State SC , RB Gilbert
We have both backs here because they were probably in consideration for MVP as well. Like Johns, they each scored twice and made some difficult runs on the night. There was a light rain the entire game, but these guys had solid footing. Rice dazzled on his 20-yard TD run. He made a spin move and had about three guys miss tackles on his way to the TD. Graham-Woodberry ran well between the tackles and was able to break free for long gains on more than one occasion.
Pressley Honeycutt, OL, Dutch Fork
It’s hard to believe a three-year varsity player for Dutch Fork is being overlooked in the recruiting cycles but here we are. Honeycutt handled the center spot and the Team Nasty coaching staff had nothing but praise for his football IQ and ability after being with him all week. Honeycutt is only 5’9”, 236 pounds. If he were four inches taller and about 30-40 pounds heavier, he would have several college offers from at least the FCS level. He made all the calls on the line and showed his athletic ability by dropping back deep and fielding the final kickoff of the game.
Adonis McDaniel Adonis McDaniel 5'10" | 165 lbs | WR Ridge View | 2023 State SC , WR, Ridge View
All McDaniel has done his entire career is produce numbers. He did it again Friday night with 74 yards receiving and one touchdown for Team Savage. He had one double for a long reception late in the game where he left the defensive back by at least five yards. He rarely has a dropped pass. He could have showcased more but kickoff and punting situations weren’t live, so he didn’t get to showcase his ability in the return game.
Dobson Ricks, QB, Ben Lippen
Ricks started the game and after a slow start got his footing under him. He hit some timing patterns which is difficult to do after just three practices. He threw the deep pass to McDaniel and got Team Savage the final score with a short TD pass to tight end Everette Joyner.
Defense
Jordan Robinson, LB, Gray Collegiate
Robinson was a menace all contest. He was part of a defense that limited Team Savage in the running game, and he was able to get pressure on the QB in passing situations. Robinson was the defensive MVP for Team nasty with eight tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and caused a fumble.
Adam Bass Adam Bass 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB Chapin | 2023 SC , DB, Chapin
Bass played big at the safety position. He limited several deep throws by knocking them away and he came away with an interception late that helped Team Nasty close things out.
Genesis Johnson, S, Sumter
Johnson made the most of this opportunity. He totaled 14 tackles with one tackle for loss. He played safety but was at or near the line of scrimmage for several of his stops. He came downhill quickly and was able to read if it was a run or pass situation. He was never out of position, and he delivered some of the bigger hits of the game.
Jason Taylor, DE, Richland Northeast
In the beginning of the game, Taylor was almost unblockable. He stayed in the Team Nasty backfield and disrupted several plays before they got started. He had four quarterback pressures and should have gotten the attention of college recruiters for his quick first step.
