Which defensive backs are starting to make a name for themselves in the 2025 class? Let’s take a look…
Zayd Rogan – Kell
A promising young defender out of a rising program at Kell High School, Rogan made a big impact in the secondary for one of the top up and coming programs in Cobb County. Just a sophomore, Rogan has a very strong 2022 season, ,making 37 tackles, 14 PBU’s, 3 INT’s, one pick-six, and one forced fumble. He’s one of thee top 2025 cornerback prospects in the area and also showed the ability to run with receivers on thee outside. He does a great job of putting himself in a position to turn around and make a play on the ball. If the throw isn’t perfect, Rogan is breaking it up. He shows quick feet, loose hips, and knows how to run. He’s also a physical tackle who will only get better this off-season. He made a lot of players for someone his age and bound for a gigantic junior season in 2023. Look for him to catch the eye of college coaches at summer camps in 2023 as well before entering his junior year.
McKaden Smith – Arabia Mountain
An under the radar sophomore receiver from last season, Smith is a two-way player with natural instincts and ball skills in coverage. He’s not the biggest cornerback in the 2025 class, but he has a lengthy frame at 5-foot-11 and 160-pounds. He’s a physical defensive back for his size who plays with aggression. He has no problem attacking the ball carrier against the run and always finds a way to the football when it’s on his side of the field. In coverage, he does a great job of keeping his eyes on the quarterback and closing quickly when the ball is in the air. He changes directions well and knows how to come down with the football. He has receiver-like ball skills, and he’s one of the hardest hitters in the area. He holds an early offer from Toledo and could see more D1 offers come his way over the next several months. As good as he was as a sophomore last yer, look for Smith to have a possible breakout junior season next season.
Devin Williams – Buford
A quick-reacting defensive back for one of thee top programs in Georgia, Williams made a big impact on a loaded defense and he did it as a sophomore. a tough, instinctive cornerback at 5’10 165 who can really jump, Williams loves locking down his side of thee field and went to-to-toe with some excellent receivers in 7A all season long. He runs well and does a great job of not letting receivers get behind him down the field. He shows promising ball skills for his class and has a chance to turn into one of Gwinnett County’s top lock-down cornerbacks in the junior class last year. He already holds quite a few D1 offers after an impactful sophomore season, and at a place like Buford, he’s going to continue getting better and better over the next few years. Look for him to climb the 2025 rankings in Georgia more and more over the next several months.
