1. Lipscomb Academy (13-0)
– The Mustangs were the most dominant team during this season, finishing the year with back to back D2-Class AA titles after a 42-0 thrashing win over CPA. Lipscomb Academy was near unstoppable this year, proving to the best team in the state for the 2022 season.
2. Baylor (11-2)
– Over most of the season, we had Baylor at the top of our rankings and they proved us right by ending the year as state champions by knocking off previously undefeated MBA in a classic contest. The Red Raiders won their first state title since 1973.
3. Oakland (14-1)
– Yet another year where the Patriots come out the season as 6A state champions with this one pushing their run to three championships in a row. This year’s team was well balanced without major college prospects.
4. Knox. West (15-0)
– The Rebels capped off their undefeated season with a commanding 5A title game victory over Page. They were led by a strong rushing attack with Brayden Latham Brayden Latham 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Knox. West | 2023 State TN as the key cog and rode him and their stout defense as the way to championship.
5. Anderson Co. (15-0)
– The best season in school history took place this year for the Mavericks as they became state champions for the 1st time ever, led by a senior laden offense with Walker Martinez Walker Martinez 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Anderson County | 2023 State TN , Bryson Vowell Bryson Vowell 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Anderson Co. | 2023 State TN and Gavin Noe Gavin Noe 6'2" | 220 lbs | RB Anderson County | 2023 State TN at the forefront and a stingy and active defense.
6. Alcoa (14-1)
– For the eight year in a row, the Alcoa Tornadoes are state champions as they took down a feisty East Nashville team in the title game. They also had two Mr. Football finalists in Lance Williams Lance Williams 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Alcoa | 2023 State TN and Jordan Harris Jordan Harris 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Alcoa | 2023 State TN with Williams coming away with top honors.
7. MBA (12-1)
– The Big Red fell one game short from winning a title but this 2022 squad was easily one of the best teams in the state, sporting a star QB in Marcel Reed Marcel Reed 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB MBA | 2023 State TN (Mr. Football Winner) and a defense that was one of the top units in the state as well.
8. Tyner Academy (14-1)
– It was a banner year for the Rams football program as they became 2A champions after a close, hard fought win over Riverside then proceeded to have stud QB Josh Jackson Josh Jackson 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Soddy Daisy | 2027 TN takeaway Mr. Football honors.
9. Beech (13-2)
– One of the best rushing attacks in the state this year, led by Darius Johnson Darius Johnson 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Beech | 2023 State TN and J.P. Courtney J.P. Courtney 6'1" | 175 lbs | ATH Beech | 2023 State TN , came from these Buccaneers who rolled over most of their opponents this year until running into a well oiled Oakland machine in the 6A title game.
10. Bartlett (11-3)
– By the end of the year, these Panthers were one of the hottest teams in the state until they fell in the Semifinals to Beech but Bartlett had a loaded senior class that propelled them to one of their best season’s in school history.
11. Pearl Cohn (12-3)
– The Firebirds came up one game short from winning a state title but they still had a tremendous season that showed a bright future ahead. Pearl Cohn did all their winning this year with their junior class, who all will be back next season, making these Firebirds a favorite in the Class 4A ranks.
12. Nolensville (12-1)
– A strong senior class, led by Coby Walton Coby Walton 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Nolensville | 2023 State TN , Chance Fitzgerald Chance Fitzgerald 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Nolensville | 2023 State TN and others, put together one of the best season’s ever this year and for most of the 2022 campaign, these Knights were seen as the top team from the 5A classification.
13. Knox. Webb (10-1)
– Most of the 2022 season was spent being undefeated for these Spartans until they matched up with Lipscomb Academy in the playoffs but this year was an outstanding building block for the future of this program and a team bringing back next year a good bit of talented prospects.
14. Brentwood Academy (9-3)
– The future looks bright for the Eagles with sophomore QB George MacIntyre George MacIntyre 6'5" | 190 lbs | QB Brentwood Academy | 2025 State TN at the helm and several strong underclassmen pieces around him. The Eagles had a strong season in 2022 but better results could be on its way over the next few years.
15. Haywood (13-1)
– Throughout much of the 2022 season, these Tomcats were considered possibly the top team in the 4A ranks but a semifinal loss to Pearl Cohn cut short their championship aspirations. This was still an outstanding team that has a key piece at QB in Cordero Walker Cordero Walker 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Germantown | 2024 State TN returning next year.
16. Munford (11-1)
– A dream season for the Cougars fell short in the playoffs with an upset loss to Springfield but this was the kind of the year that can build this West Tennessee program into a possible power but they must build and grow on this year’s success.
17. McCallie (10-3)
– One of the best programs in the state had a down year by their standards but McCallie was still pretty good and they might be even better next year with guys like Jeremy St. Hilaire, Carson Lawrence Carson Lawrence 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB McCallie | 2025 State TN , Carson Gentle, Olivier Camerlain Olivier Camerlain 6'6" | 260 lbs | DL McCallie | 2024 State TN , Marcellus Barnes, Jr Marcellus Barnes, Jr 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB McCallie | 2024 State TN and others returning.
18. Page (12-3)
– For the second year in a row, the Patriots made it to the Class 5A title game but came up short in both occasions, however Page is a really good football team that has several strong pieces returning next year and a foundation built that could lead to that eventual state championship.
19. Greeneville (12-1)
– One blemish on the record kept the Green Devils from finishing the season undefeated but that one loss came to the eventual state champs, so it was a great bounce back year for the Greeneville program that has several solid pieces returning for the 2023 campaign.
20. East Nashville (12-3)
– No matter the results from the last two years in the state title game, the fact that East Nashville has gotten there under HC Jamaal Stewart, shows that the Eagles are legit and inching closer and closer to that elusive state title.
21. Cane Ridge (11-2)
– Until the Ravens caught up with a hot Beech team in the Quarterfinal round of the playoffs, Cane Ridge was one of the hottest and best teams in the Class 6A ranks but it was yet another strong year under HC Eddie Woods and his coaching staff.
22. Powell (11-3)
– The season started off a little slower than the Panthers wanted to but they turned it around and became a team nobody wanted to see throughout the Fall months of the season as they eventually made it all the way to the Class 5A Semifinals.
23. Germantown (10-3)
– One of the best teams from the greater Memphis area this year was the Red Devils and they almost made a big push to the 6A title game this season before running into Bartlett. Watch out for Germantown going forward though because they have a loaded roster full of talented underclassmen.
24. McKenzie (15-0)
– An undefeated season, a state championship and a Mr. Football winner in Jackson Cassidy Jackson Cassidy 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB McKenzie | 2023 State TN all took place this year for the Rebels and their senior class will walk away as the most successful crop of seniors in school history.
25. Friendship Chrst. (13-0)
– The Commanders finished their season undefeated after a 34-27 win over Nash. Christian in the D2-Class A title game, receiving stellar performances from offensive standouts Garrett Weekly and Brock Montgomery Brock Montgomery 6'3" | 205 lbs | WR Riverdale | 2024 State TN .
