This year, one of the teams I identified with a strong class of North Carolina high schoolers is Old Dominion. The Monarchs have (so far) received NLIs from three players from the Tar Heel state and I’ll break them down here.
Connor Drake Connor Drake 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Providence | 2023 State NC , 6’6 315, OT- Providence
The gem of Old Dominion’s class, Drake is a Power Five talent that got lost in a few coaching changes and the transfer portal shuffle. Still, he’s a great fit for Old Dominion’s new offensive system. A strong run blocker, Drake played both left and right tackle in high school.
Drake spoke with Prep Redzone about his decision to pick the Monarchs:
“I’m very excited for the future with (offensive line) coach (Alex) Huettel and (offensive coordinator) coach (Kevin) Decker coming in bringing lots of offensive potential and just can’t wait to be one of those program builders.”
Anshon Camp Anshon Camp 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Chambers | 2023 State NC , 5’10 175, QB- Chambers
Camp is one of our favorite quarterbacks in the state, with a great combination of arm talent and athleticism. Camp has proven himself an excellent leader in the locker room and on the field and his senior highlights are excellent. He’s a bit undersized, which certainly hasn’t hurt former Old Dominion quarterbacks. With Decker coming in to run the new offense, Camp could find himself in the mix for the job from the minute he steps on campus.
Ethan Prescutty, 6’1 190, WR- Old Dominion
Prescutty excels at making himself available for his quarterback, both as a route runner and at the catch point. On film, he shows the ability to make highlight-reel catches and always seems to be open. He has good speed to stretch a defense. We think he could make some solid contributions fairly early in his career for the Monarchs. Because of this, he fits really well into an already talented Monarch recruiting class.
All three players have a chance to contribute early for Kevin Decker’s new offense. Going forward, I’m interested to see if Old Dominion continues to recruit the Tar Heel state.
