NYSPHSAA Class A State Finals Top Performers

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Somers had one of the most impressive seasons we saw from a team in New York going undefeated and running the table in the State Finals with wins that were not particularly close to competitions. Led by star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='449662' first='Matt' last='Fitzsimons'] Somers really has had complete performances on both sides of the ball all season and it paid off with a State Title. In the championship game, Somers defeated Union-Endicott 58-21 in an impressive performance. Fitzsimons was in command of the ball all day and consistently made plays and really impressive throws. 11 completions on only 12 attempts resulting in an insane 264 yards and 4 TDs for Somers. Fitzsimons also added a rushing touchdown on a couple runs totaling 14 yards. This performance from Fitzsimons capped of an undefeated season for the Tuskers in which Fitzsimons was the leader and catalyst for all season long. On the ground Savino had 14 carries for 162 yards and 3 TD's. Savino helped round out the Somers offense giving them an impressive balance and success on the ground throughout the game. Savino also added several touchbacks as a kicker and added four extra points. Dass Jr had four rushes for 31 yards and three receptions for 80 yards two of those catches turning into touchdowns. Dass Jr. had two of the first three touchdowns for Somers which came on an 18 yard pass and 41 yard pass from his QB Fitzsimons. Cole registered the only Sack on the day and added five tackles on the day. Union-Endicott struggled to get their ground game going averaging only 2.6 yards per carry. Kennedy had the lone interception in the game and added five tackles on the ground. Clark had three receptions for 74 yards and was the catalyst of a couple huge plays including one that went 53 yards for a touchdown. Kelly also was solid on the ground with a five carries for 26 yards and a touchdown. Kelly was solid throughout the game but his rushing touchdown really put the game out of reach for Union-Endicott and his final touchdown was just the icing on top of the cake for Kelly's great performance.
