The best of the best in the 2024 class that the state of South Carolina has to offer was on display at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach on Friday night in the Joanne Langfitt Junior Showcase.

We were on hand for the 7-on-7 competitions that went on and there were plenty of guys that caught our eye:

Quarterbacks and some two-way play

Crestwood's [player_tooltip player_id='589009' first='Javion' last='Martin'] (pictured above) has a strong velocity on his throws and is accurate with the ball. We saw him throw it right over the defenders in the early 7on7 games. He keeps his eyes downfield and makes good decisions. He's a guy you'll want to keep your eye on moving forward.

Powdersville's [player_tooltip player_id='448984' first='Eli' last='Hudgins'] got in on the action defensively to make up for some guys that weren't able to make the trip and made a nice pass breakup to prevent a score. But when he did take snaps at quarterback, he made accurate throws, including a beautiful throw to Ashley Ridge's [player_tooltip player_id='589052' first='Derrick' last='Salley'] for a long ball. Salley won the offensive MVP award at the end of the night.

South Pointe's [player_tooltip player_id='771038' first='Malachi' last='Marshall'] made a throw on a wheel route where his receiver ran right underneath it for a touchdown. Marshall won't force it and will check it down.

The formations during the session were either trips (3 receivers to one side of the field) or two-by-two (two receivers to each side of the field).

Star defensive back from the Upstate

Keep an eye on this name as we head into the offseason: [player_tooltip player_id='538859' first='Demario' last='Bookhart'] from Spartanburg. He is long and rangy, and you have to be on target when you're throwing the ball because he can play center field and the safety position extremely well. It seemed like every time a ball came his way, it was either knocked away or picked off by him.

Additional nuggets

Aiken WR [player_tooltip player_id='208338' first='Braylon' last='Staley'] wrestled the ball away from the defensive back on a touchdown grab – it was impressive to watch.

Stratford QB Jalen Berry also played both sides of the ball and ran a route for a touchdown where he won the one-on-one battle. When he was taking snaps, he put the ball where only his receiver could catch it.
