Let’s dive in…
Jontavis Curry
Jontavis Curry
Senior Jontavis Curry woke up Friday morning and decided to put his team on back. Curry carved up the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane with four rushing touchdowns. Curry finished with 243 rushing yards on only 17 carries. With 12 seconds left in the third, he ran 61 yards to give the Bulldogs a 26-21 lead. With a minute left in the game and Thomson facing third-and-11, he ran a counter and slashed across the middle, outrunning the pack for 86 yards to put the game away, giving the Bulldogs a 32-21 lead. Surprisingly, Curry doesn’t have any offers. That will change here in a few weeks after that clutch performance he displayed.
Patrick Gardner
Patrick Gardner
Patrick Gardner!!! 230-pound fullback/defensive lineman, was a key weapon in bad conditions. He ran 20 times for 101 yards. He put on an unstoppable performance Friday night, leading his team a state championship victory. He displayed that he is a strong interior runner. Quickly presses the line of scrimmage and has the burst to get through the line of scrimmage and into the second level quickly. A classic North-South runner who doesn’t waste time moving laterally.
Noland ended his high school career in fashion! He did something that no other quarterback done in Langston High School history, and that’s bring home a state title. Noland threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns to help No. 1-ranked Hughes win its first state championship. Noland completed 18 of 21 passes and closed the game with 13 straight connections. Noland also ran for the final first down that enabled the Panthers to run out the clock and end the game.
Justin Bonds
Justin Bonds
Hughes was led defensively by Justin Bonds with 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery. Bonds was all over the field Friday night making plays. Bond showed initial quickness and good flexibility to dip and bend. He has active hands and suddenness to his movements, demonstrating the ability to counter inside. Bonds also showed a burst to close. Flashes explosive hitting ability and good lateral and downfield pursuit.
