Throughout this offseason, we will highlight many of the standouts, and in today’s article, we take a look at a number of linemen who made a name for themselves this season. Featured is a 6’5″ offensive tackle in Manvel and a versatile interior lineman in Denton still looking for his first offer.
OT Allan McCarter – 6’5″ 265 – Manvel HS / @Allan_McCarter
The starting right tackle for the Mavericks, McCarter looks the part of a Division 1 football player. He has prototypical size, frame, and athleticism for the position, but looks a bit raw and unpolished. Like many young linemen, he tends to stand straight up at times, and as a result, can find himself overextended and off balance. One thing that stands out on film is that he’s got nimble feet, especially when pulling to either side. There is some work to be done, but there’s a lot to like as well. If he goes to work this offseason and improves his game, he will be a player to watch when the 2023 season kicks off.
Currently has no offers, but is starting to receive FBS interest.
G Isaiah Simpson – 6’2″ 285 – Braswell HS / @IsaiahSimpson72
Years ago when UTEP guard Will Hernandez was drafted by the New York Giants, it was said of him, “he plays football like he hates people.” You can say the same about Simpson. The first team all-district tackle for the Bengals has a bright future ahead of him. He’s a tenacious, versatile mauler who plays with a mean streak. He’s got some athleticism, is effective in space, and gets it done at the point of attack. Every now and then, he bends at the waist, but overall, is an FCS-caliber prospect who should see a meteoric rise up recruiting boards next season.

DE Noah Silcox – 6’3″ 210 – Navasota HS / @BigNoah34547915
Silcox is a high-motor defensive end for the Rattlers. He’s going to play to the whistle and give 100% on every play. In his pass rush, he gets inside hand placement and is able to disengage from tackles consistently. He could work himself into an FCS conversation when/if he develops a little more burst. When you put the tape on, you’ll see that mobile quarterbacks are able to escape his pressure at times. One thing that pops is his power. He flashes an ability to overpower offensive linemen at the point of attack and force his way into the backfield. Very intriguing prospect to watch for in 2023.

G Matthew Garita – 6’3” 270 – Keller HS / @Matthew_Garita
Garita is a complete offensive lineman who excels in pass protection, and against the run. In the ground game, he bends at the knees and gets a nice push at the point of attack, creating a nice path for his running back. Looks good in space and always delivers a nice pop when someone gets in his path. When in pass pro, he is able to anchor effectively and keep the pocket clean. Has a tendency to drop his head at times, but overall, is a very good interior lineman that would be a nice pickup for a smaller program. Could develop into a starter at the next level.
