It is finally here!! The communization of the entire high school football season is the state championships. In Texas, all of the state games are held in one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. The game I will be covering is The Desoto Eagles vs Austin Vandegrift Vipers. In the 1st quarter, neither team could score or get any kind of advantage over another. However, in the 2nd quarter, Desoto started to overwhelm Vandegrift and they kept on scoring touchdowns rapidly. Vandegrift was able to fight back and started to score touchdowns as well, but they could not catch up in time. The final score of the game was 17-42 with The Desoto Eagles becoming The 2022 6A Division II State Champions. Both teams fought extremely hard in this article I’ll be breaking down Desoto Eagles’ and Austin Vandegrift Vipers’ defensive standouts.
Desoto Eagles Defense
#45 Keylan Abrams DE So 6’1 205 lbs
Keylan Abrams is an outstanding defensive end. Quick off the ball, strong push off Keylan was a huge problem for Vandegrift’s offense all night long. Keylan was always in the backfield causing quarterback hurries and sacks. Keylan is an athlete that is always involved in the action and he is only a sophomore can’t wait to see how he improves in the next two years. Keylan’s stats is 6 total tackles and one sack.
#48 Jason Douglas DT Jr 6’3 245 lbs
Jason Douglas was on fire the entire game. Jason is a force of nature he looks like the ideal defensive tackle and plays like one as well. Jason is quick and fasts off the ball he uses power and finesses to get off the block and attack the ball holder. With Jason having all of these standout traits he was an obvious candidate for defensive MVP of the game. Jason’s stats were 5.5 tackles, four TFLs, and 2 sacks.
Austin Vandegrift Vipers Defense
#99 Daemian Wimberly DT, DE Sr 6’5 255 lbs
The biggest defensive line on Austin Vandegrift’s roster is Daemian Wimberly. Being 6’5 and over 250 pounds Daemian is a Goliath even among the opposing offensive linemen. Daemian isn’t only his size he is fast and knows how to hustle continuously running until the whistle is blown. Daemian is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers but has decided to commit to Southern Methodist University to continue his football career. Daemian’s stats were 7 total tackles and one sack.
#8 Alex Foster DB Jr 6’2 185 lbs
Alex Foster is an aggressive defensive back. Alex foster was a man on a mission attacking the ball holder with aggressive intent. Alex was always in the action getting almost every single tackle of the game. Alex’s best play of the night was causing a fumble on Desoto’s one-yard line preventing a touchdown. Alex’s stats were 19 total tackles and a forced fumble.
