Continue ReadingThe 5A player of the Year, Flowers lit it up this season with 3,009 yards passing to go with 32 touchdowns. A junior who uses elite arm strength with a fluid throwing motion to go with elite anticipation. Flowers never seems to be rattled during a game, always looking cool, calm and collected on the field. The junior quarterback led his team back to the state championship and capped off his season with a ring. There are plenty of things to like about Flowers game but the one that jumps off the page is his competitiveness, he does not like to lose and you can see it replicated in the way he plays. Flowers is not just a pocket passer with the ability to keep plays alive with his legs, he can hurt defenses if he decided to take off an run. With an offer from Arizona already the junior will be back to light up the 5A again next season.
The senior for Rocky Mountain finished his season as arguably one of the best passers in his high schools history throwing for 2,627 yards to go with 29 touchdowns. Not only did he put up huge numbers but was also one of the most accurate passers in the state this season. There is a lot to like about Sweaney’s game, he is a tall strong armed quarterback who throws with great touch especially on balls down the field. Has the ability to throw the football into all three levels of the defense and good enough mobility to pull the ball down and run. The senior will be remembered not only for his amazing season but for the player he was to the Rocky football program.
Daniel Carrillo
Daniel Carrillo
The top running back in the 5A this season the senior torched defenses on the ground to the tune of 1,779 yards with 22 touchdowns. Not known for his size measuring in at 5’7″ the senior made up for it with elite vision and break away speed. Defenses understood that he was going to touch the football for the Bulldogs on almost every play and still Carrillo would find a way. Some of the best vision we have ever seen at the running back position Carrillo naturally was able to find gaps in the line in order to make the most out of plays that surely looked to go for a loss. After that he has game breaking speed that allowed him to get to the corner and run away from defenders. One of the most impressive seasons by far in the state of Idaho.
Williams was another stand out for the Rocky Mountain Grizzles as he started both ways. He makes the all state team as a running back where he has 1,132 total yards and 11 touchdowns. Williams is just a pure athlete able to do so many things well, he runs hard with a down hill track that shows he is not afraid of contact. In the open field he has enough wiggle to make defenders miss and good speed that allowed him to get to the edge of the defense. His most underrated ability if you could even call it that is his pass catching ability. A true threat out of the back field, Williams has natural pass catching hands and really good ball skills in order to be a weapon all over the field. The Idaho commit had an outstanding season.
The recent Bryant commit has one heck of a season for the Eagle Mustangs. 79 catches for 923 yards and 8 touchdowns the senior did it all for the Mustangs. Not one of the tallest receivers around but one of the if not the fastest receivers in the state. A player who every defensive coach would hold their breath when he touched the football as he would consistently break off long plays that turned into long touchdowns. Natural hands with really good open field ability Duarte is a weapon from anywhere on the field. One of his top attributes though is his toughness. Constantly jammed or hit by multiple defenders during games to try and slow him down, Duarte never came off the field. He is also a willing blocker if you throw on the game field as he was asked this season to block defensive ends in the Mustang run scheme.
Brady Packer
Brady Packer
Packer was the top weapon on the states top team as he led the 5A in catches at 71, yards at 1,272 and touchdowns 17. The senior receiver has some of the best hands in the state, with natural pass catching hands and great ball skills. Packer is able to uses his jumping ability to win the 50/50 ball and come down with football. His best attribute is his route running ability. Has a natural knee and hip bend that allows him to get in and out of his breaks. He creates good separation with his speed and ability to effortless stop on a dime. He led the 5A in receiving for a reason and I would not be surprised he will do the same at the next level where ever he ends up.
Luchini had the best receiving season in the 5A SIC this season along with one of the best in the state. The Washington commit had 1,057 yards with 12 touchdowns on 59 catches this season. A game breaker that can play both outside and inside in the slot. Luchini has strong hands and great ball skills that allow him to snatch football out of the air. It never looks as if the football gets across his frame, he has the ability to get the 50/50 ball and shows good elusiveness in the open field. His ability to move all over the field will help him immensely at the next level as he wont be pigeon holed into one spot in the wide receiver room.
