In Texas, all of the state games were held at one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. Throughout the weekend there were 12 games meaning 12 championship teams and 23 athletes that were awarded MVPs on both offense and defense. I will be breaking down all the offensive and defensive MVPs from each championship team.
4A Division II Carthage Bulldogs vs Wimberley Texans (42-0)
Offense MVP (Carthage): #10 Connor Cuff QB Sr 6’4 200 lbs
This weekend I’ve seen two of the tallest quarterbacks in high school football and one of them was Connor Cuff from Carthage. Connor threw amazing passes with speed and precision. With Connor’s height, he could easily pass with a high arc and let his wide receivers work. Connor also had great footwork allowing him to scramble and run the ball. Connor currently has one college offer from Houston Baptist University. Connor’s stats were 14/22 for 300 passing yards, threw 4 touchdown passes, and ran in one touchdown himself.
Defense MVP (Carthage): #3 Jakerrian Roquemore CB Sr 5’11 165 lbs
Everyone on Carthage’s defense played exceptionally well considering they did not allow any touchdowns the whole game. However, the one that executed the lockdown defense was Jakerrian Roquemore. Jakerrian is quick and fast providing great coverage with a no-fly zone. Jakerrian on offense is a great wide receiver allowing him on defense to catch any interception with ease. Jakerrian currently has two college offers from; North American University and McPherson College. Jakerrian’s stats were 2 tackles, an interception, forced a fumble, and broke up a pass.
4A Division I China Spring Cougars vs Boerne Greyhounds (24-21)
Offense MVP (China Spring): #3 Cash McCollum QB Jr 6’4 210 lbs
The other extremely tall quarterback was from China Spring High School Cash McCollum. Cash was a textbook quarterback with adequate precision. Cash’s main trait was his grit and boldness to stay in the pocket having 100% faith in his offensive linemen. Cash fits in great in China Spring’s offense considering he just transferred there this season from Wimberly. Cash is a great quarterback with the fortitude to lead his team to a 3rd state championship. Cash’s stats were 14/22 for 144 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes.
Defense MVP (China Spring): #5 Tristan Exline OLB, TE Sr 6’1 205 lbs
An athlete that can make a lot of strides on the field is Tristan Exline. Tristan is a terrifying linebacker ready to hit the ball carrier with tremendous force. Don’t get in his way either Boerne’s offensive lineman had to learn that the hard way. Tristan was always in the skirmish making the tackle himself or limiting Boerne’s quarterback and running back options. Tristan is also difficult to cover or tackle when on offense Tristan went out for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Tristan is a top college prospect that has five college and university offers from; MidAmerica Nazarene University, Tufts University, Hardin Simmons University, East Texas Baptist University, and Bethel College. Tristan’s stats were 12 total tackles and a 5-yard touchdown pass on offense.
