In Texas, all of the state games were held at one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. Throughout the weekend there were 12 games meaning 12 championship teams and 23 athletes that were awarded MVPs on both offense and defense. I will be breaking down all the offensive and defensive MVPs from each championship team.
2A Division II Albany Lions vs Mart Panthers 41-21
Offense MVP (Albany): #4 Coy Lefevre RB, MLB Sr 6’1 200 lbs
Coy Lefevre is an athletic and big running back. Coy is a power-back he focuses more on bulldozing through than speed itself. Coy had a great game despite recovering from numerous injuries and the flu. Coy is also impressive on defense as a middle linebacker. Because of Coy’s big frame and power he was able to deliver devastating hits to anyone that came into his zone. Coy was able to catch an interception that later led to him scoring on offense. Coy’s stats on offense was 17 carries for 65 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Coy’s stats on defense was 6 total tackles and one interception.
Defense MVP (Albany): #80 Wyatt Windham DB, WR Jr 5’11 165 lbs
Wyatt Windham was on fire during the championship game. Wyatt had great coverage the entire game not allowing Mart’s wide receiver to get upfield. Even when a receiver caught the ball Wyatt instantly tackled going for the waist. Wyatt was getting tackle after tackle throughout the whole game no wonder why he got defensive MVP. Wyatt’s stats were 18 total tackles and 2 TFLs.
2A Division I Hawley Bearcats vs Refugio Bobcats 54-28
Offense MVP (Hawley): #12 Austin Cumpton RB, MLB, QB Sr 6’1 225 lbs
Austin Cumpton is a straight athlete playing great as a running back and middle linebacker. Austin’s toughness allows him to play both of these positions. As a running back he was exceptionally fast and hard to tackle. As a middle linebacker, he would read Refugio’s offense and instantly attack the ball holder and clog up the hole on run plays. Austin also threw a touchdown pass as a quarterback this man can do everything. Austin is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers from; Howard Payne University, Texas Wesleyan University, McPherson College, Wayland Baptist, and Tarleton State University to name a few. Austin’s stats on offense was 31 carries with 155 rushing yards 4 touchdowns and one touchdown pass. Austin’s stats on defense was 4 total tackles and 2 fumble recoveries.
Defense MVP (Hawley): #50 Hez Parker RB, OLB Sr 5’8 195 lbs
Hez Parker is a strong outside linebacker. Hez specialty is blitzing zooming past Refugio’s offensive line and getting into the backfield. Hez was blitzing throughout the game and was a huge threat to Refugio’s offense. Hez could also patiently read the play and was able to get a pick-six. Hez’s stats were 5 total tackles, one sack, forced a fumble, and a pick-six for 50 yards.
