A look at the first round top Wide Receiver performers, that really made some explosive plays to help their team in an effort to make it to the second round.

Receiver of the Week

[player_tooltip player_id='503807' first='Gavin' last='Olshan'], ThunderRidge Grizzlies (WR)(SR.) - Olshan was easily one of the difference makers on the offensive side of the ball for the Grizzlies. Olshan showed up and balled out for his team when it mattered hauling in 10 receptions for a week leading 173 yards to go along with 2 Touchdowns, he also added 1 rush for 4 yards as well. You can turn on the tape and see the speed at which he plays and is able to track the football, that matches well with some good hands and size to complete it all. This kid is (6'0, 170) which creates a size match-up problem with some of the corners that he will face. This was his best game of the season and the Grizzlies are a team that likes to run the ball so it was interesting to see them open the passing game up for the first round. The Grizzlies continue to the next round and will face Arapahoe who has a good defense so it will be interesting to see if Olshan is able to be a difference maker again.

Darin Martin, Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans (WR) (SR.)- Martin was a big contributor in the success of the Trojans offense in what turned into somewhat of a laugher against a struggling Eaglecrest team. Martin showed his big play ability turning on the jets on a 56 yard scoring play that looked like a busted coverage. Martin is not the tallest receiver but has the ability to be a slot receiver as well as playing outside the numbers as well. His biggest game this year came against Legend high school so he will look to continue his streak against a talented creek team that looks to make it back to the championship again this year. Martin has great speed and is able to get in and out of his cuts. watching the film you would like to see him make cleaner cuts and use more of the explosiveness to create separation, this will help him when setting up defenders for double moves that he is more than capable of making.

Domenic Leone, Fossil Ridge Sabercats (WR) (SR.)- A guy who can make it Halloween every week for a defender is Leone. This kid is a match-up nightmare just with his size and athleticism. If I was his Quarterback we would watch Devante Adams and Aaron Rodgers back shoulder throw highlights everyday because that's what we would run in the redzone. When you watch tape what jumps is his speed just being able to create separation and having that breakaway speed to get away from defenders. He is a physical receiver and goes and fights for the ball which you love to see because most kids don't have that ability anymore. The kid is (6'3, 200 lbs) and he plays every inch of it as he will go up and pluck the ball out of the air and makes sure he secures the ball as well. He is quick off of the line and has good footwork. You can tell he plays basketball just by the way he boxes the defender out and looks like he is going up for a rebound when he goes for those high catches. I would love to see him get more targets because I know he will make a defense pay, so I will be interested to see what he is able to do against Regis, as far as using his size as an advantage.

[player_tooltip player_id='230322' first='Jordan' last='Rechel'], Fairview Knights (WR) (SO.)- Rechel is undoubtably the future of the Knights only being a Sophmore and being able to make such a big difference already for his team. He was the teams second leading rusher with 619 yards to go along with 872 yards receiving. Rechel had 6 receptions for 115 yards to go along with 11 carries for 41 yards and 1 touchdown in a losing effort to Chatfield that will end the Knights season. He is a physical runner and you can tell he plays some running back because when he is able to catch the ball in the open field he does not go down on first contact. He is great for a quarterback because he will get you the (YAC) yards after catch and help himself out in the process with the (YAC) yards after contact. Having that ability to make the first guy miss will help him as he gets older and puts on some weight in the coming years will make him even harder to tackle. He has great hands and creates separation with his speed and uses that speed when he gets to the second level and is a player that has the knack for finding the endzone. Will be someone to keep your eye on these next couple of years.

Peyton Sommers, CherokeeTrail Cougars (WR) (SO.)- Sommers is a young receiver who is more technical in what he does, he runs sound routes and is good with getting to the right position on the field. I think he will gain some confidence from this game and continue to grow and will be a great receiver for the Cougars. He is a speedy receiver that makes things happen in the open field and has great hands and can make that first guy miss at time which he can make the defense pay with his speed. As the game goes on and he makes a couple catches you can see him start to relax in the game as well. Sommers in a losing effort had 133 yards on 2 explosive plays with his only 2 catches of the day turning both of them into touchdowns. Sommers scored on a 80 yard skinny post that he showed his speed on and with his only other catch was able to turn a 6 yard hitch into a 53 yard touchdown as well breaking 2 tackles along the way. You can tell that he is a young raw talent and has good route running ability. Sommers was the second leading receiver for the Cougars this year and will need to grow quickly as he will be the top pass catcher next year as their top pass catcher was a SR this year. Sommers will need to ride this momentum and grow some parts of his game to help his team this offseason to try and compete in a tough division next season.

A look at the first round top Wide Receiver performers, that really made some explosive plays to help their team in an effort to make it to the second round.
