Running Back of the Week
The Columbine Rebels were able to make a great comeback with a turnaround performance by the defense not allowing the Jaguars to score in the second half. The offense finally turned it on with their two headed monster in Marquane Taylor Marquane Taylor 5'6" | 165 lbs | RB Columbine | 2023 State CO (SR RB) and Josh Snyder Josh Snyder RB Columbine | 2024 State CO (JR RB) scoring 17 unanswered points in the second half. Taylor is my top back of the week with 23 carriers for 170 yards and 2TDS. Scoring a 70 yard explosive play for the Rebels. Taylor is more of the speed back and he has the speed to pull away from defenders and is a problem in the open field. He has that big play ability and breaks tackles with good footwork, spinning away from defenders. Taylor has big play ability and is a key player in the Rebels return game, turning the field over quickly. Snyder had 15 carries for 138 yards and 1TD. Snyder shows good hands, having the ability catch out of the backfield. Snyder also shows big play ability, when he gets the ball he is a physical runner and hard to bring down constantly fighting for more yards. Snyder has good vision and good footwork, he is able to use speed to get to the perimeter and shows toughness running in-between his tackles. Will be taking on Ralston Valley Mustangs in a revenge game.
Diano Benallo Diano Benallo 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Ralston Valley | 2023 State CO , Ralston Valley Mustangs (RB)(SR)- Benallo is a great all around player, he is great in the kicking game, can get it done on the ground and has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Benallo had 24 carries for 162 yards, 1TD and was 2/2 on PATS. Is a player that has good vision and follows his blocks, is really great at breaking arm tackles and uses his speed to hit the hole and get to the perimeter. He is a good route runner, knows the route tree and can be used as a scat back lining up outside as a slot receiver as well. Benallo is also able to pickup blocks in the passing game when he is asked to do so. Is a shifty, versatile and smart runner that avoids the unnecessary hits.
Chase Dahir, Grandview Wolves (RB)(SR)- Dahir had a good output and was able to have a good showing with 15 carries for 126 yards. Dahir is a stockier back that has good vision and follows his blocks. Dahir has some surprising speed at (5’11, 185lbs) and is faster than you would think. He isn’t someone who is going to blow the top off of the coverage or outrun the top corners and safeties but has the speed to pull away from most in the open field. He shows his vision by being patient and letting his blocks develop, runs with speed once holes do open up. Dahir has good footwork and balance, he is able to break through contact without losing too much speed.
Cole Hanchett, ThunderRidge Grizzlies (ATH)(SR)- Hanchett is a good sized back (6’0, 200lbs) and he plays with an aggressive game as well. Hanchett had 22 carries for 130 yards which was his best rushing game of the season, against a pretty good Arapahoe defense. The Grizzlies will have another tough task in one of the top defenses in the state as they will take on the Cherry Creek Bruins in the next round. Hanchett doesn’t have many chances to catch the ball out of the backfield, would also like to see him get more chances to punch it in but the Grizzlies are a balanced team. They have scored almost as many touchdowns on the ground (25) as they have through the air (21). Will be interesting to see how they try to attack this top rated Bruins defense.
