In today’s article, we break down some of the more under-the-radar defensive backs in the Houston area that are sure to develop into starters at the next stop in their careers.
The players in this article definitely made a name for themselves this season, at the highest levels of competition in the state.
CB Eli Wyatt – 6’2″ 170 – Klein Collins HS / @EliWyatt14 (Class of ’23)
An under-hyped corner with #1 potential for his college team, Wyatt is the real deal. With prototypical size for the position and a knack for the big play, he did a fantastic job locking down opponents’ go-to wideouts throughout his senior season. The hips are fluid and he does a good job of recognizing routes, but at times, his feet can get a little wide. That’s an easy clean-up during his freshman year, however. When you get on the road in the Houston area, be sure to stop by Klein Collins and meet with this young man. He is the real deal.

CB Asa Brown Asa Brown 5'10" | 155 lbs | DB Klein Collins | 2023 TX – 5’10” 170 – Klein Collins HS / @AsaBrownKC (Class of ’23)
The preseason defensive MVP in District 15-6A, and a teammate of Eli Wyatt, Brown is one of the most under-recruited cornerbacks in the area. I get it – everyone wants a 6’1″ corner – but this baller has the stuff to really shine at a high level when he suits up on Saturdays. He’s lightning quick and breaks on the ball exceptionally well, which gives fans the opportunity to witness his 4.4 speed up close. I know that ‘close’ doesn’t count in this game, but when watching his highlight tape, you will see two pass breakups that could easily have been pick 6s. The youngster is fun to watch.

CB Chisom Onwuzurigbo – 6’1″ 180 – Fort Bend Hightower / @ChisomOnwuzuri1 (Class of ’23)
Senior Stats: 10 pass breakups, 5 interceptions, 1 strip fumble for TD, 1 blocked punt
Offer this kid. Chisom is a long, rangy, ball hawking corner that will instantly be an asset to a top flight program. The instincts are elite, ball skills are elite, and the route recognition is elite. He is fluid throughout his backpedal and into his transition, can run downfield with anybody, and shows an ability to excel in press man. He offers positional versatility as well, and can line up as a nickel or free safety.
S Kameron Reddic – 6’0″ 170 – Fort Bend Hightower / @ReddicKameron1 (Class of ’24)
The type of hard-hitting strong safety every secondary coach needs on the field on Saturdays, Reddic had a stellar junior season for the Hurricanes. Against the run, he flies downhill in a hurry and fills gaps with bad intentions. Versus the pass, he does a good job of coming over the top and playing the ball. I look forward to seeing an even better version when his senior season begins next August.
