Week two of the state playoffs in the Charleston area saw several noteworthy performances by significant players.
In the Class 1A ranks, one of the top matchups involved a Lower State clash between Cross and Lake View, two of the perennial state contenders. Cross won a defensive struggle, 21-8, and the Trojans were led defensively by 2023 tackle Amonte McCray (pictured). The 6-4, 285-pound North-South all-star game selection contributed five tackles but four of those were for negative yardage.
Woodland 2023 quarterback Sudarian Harrison continues to pile up yardage. In a win over Cheraw, Harrison rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 103 yards and another score.
With leading rusher Marquez Spells on the shelf, Summerville turned to 2024 running back Trae Green in the Green Wave’s 35-13 whipping of Lexington. Green was up to the task, rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries, raising his season total to nearly 800 yards.
Another 2024 back, Davian Brown Davian Brown 5'7" | 190 lbs | RB Fort Dorchester | 2024 State SC of Fort Dorchester, piled up 170 yards on the ground on just 21 carries in a second-round win over Berkeley. Brown topped the 1,000-yard mark in the game.
James Island 2024 receiver Wushi Ravenel Wushi Ravenel 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR James Island | 2024 State SC continues to show why he will be one of the state’s top pass-catchers next fall. In a 24-22 win over Irmo, Ravenel caught four passes for 139 yards and a touchdown, including a key reception to the five-yard line to set up the winning field goal.
