With that being said, we’re diving into a few young men that had standout performances and are making their mark in the post-season for their respective teams. Let’s dive into it.

Starting off, we’re diving into Mr. Martin who had himself a showing against a stout Lemont defense ending the night with 4 rushing TDs. These went for 7 yards, 35 yards, 10 yards, and finished the night with a 71 yard rushing TD. If you give this young man a sliver of a lane he can get skinny to hit and use his foot quicks to burst through gaining a step on 2nd level defenders to break a long run. Pair his ability to change direction quickly by stopping on a dime with his quick acceleration to change gears and you have yourself one of the top RBs in the state for his class. As ESL heads back to the 6A IHSA State Championship game, look for this young man to make a few big plays for his team as he runs behind one of the best O-Line in the state. Twitter
Blake Regenold
Blake Regenold
Moving from 6A football down to small school 1A football, we’re aimed at Mr. Regenold who has a good frame standing at 6’2 195. This young man was able to cap off his impressive performance with 288 rushing yards for 5 TDs to advance his team to the 1A IHSA State Championship game. As Camp Point looks to finish their perfect season with a state title going 14-0, they’re going up against the defending chams in Lena-Winslow that are also looking to do the same thing. This game is going to be a game of dominant halfbacks going up against solid defensive fronts. With such a big frame and downhill style running, be sure to keep a close eye on Mr. Regenold during this contest. Twitter

It’s a tale of impressive running back performances during the Semi Finals and we’re continuing this trend with Peoria High’s Mr. Washington who has been nothing but spectacular this fall season. He finished off the night with 383 rushing yards for 5 TDs (76, 42, & 56 yards to name a few) as Peoria High punched their ticket to the IHSA 5A State Championship game. After this performance, this has put him over the 3,000 rushing yard mark this season over 13 games – talk about a season performance to remember. I raved about this young man when I scouted Peoria High’s playoff win against Kankakee, he continues to perform at a high level and is going to be a focal point in Peoria’s offensive attack. Twitter
Switching gears a bit, we’re diving into a defensive standout who is also my way too early 7A MVP candidate in Mr. Kingsbury. This young man flies to the ball being a force in run support working gap to gap and is used as an edge rusher on passing downs at times. One play in particular that stood out was when he came off the edge and beat the offensive tackle to the turn point. Once he did he was able to close on the QB and dive at him scrapping the ball down out of his hands as he made contact forcing a fumble on the play. The fumble was recovered by the opposing QB, but it was impressive nonetheless. No brainer top LB in the state and a P5 Caliber prospect. Twitter

Staying with the trend of defensive performances that stood out, Mr. Arrington is up next. This young man is able to make open field tackles on the perimeter and can stick defenders well as they’re in the process of securing the catch. He can also cover sideline to sideline well keeping himself in a position to make a play on the ball which is exactly what he did in the 4th. Here, he was able to come away with the interception and return it 40 yards for a defensive TD with only 5:29 left in the game. This game his team the 20-9 lead against St. Rita essentially putting the dagger in this game, talk about the play of the game. Twitter
Joseph Gliatta
Joseph Gliatta
Moving back with the halfback trend, Mr. Gliatta is on the board. A week ago I spoke about how he had a good performance against Princeton finishing with 2 TDs in the 2nd half and 1 TD in OT to win the game to advance to the Semi-Finals. Fast Forward to this Semi Final game and this young man continues to showcase his dominance, this time rushing for 192 yards for 4 TDs in a 35-0 win against Byron. His downhill running style and refusal to go down upon initial contact is one to watch as he continues to bulldoze opposing defenders. Twitter
Going from 4A ball back up to 7A, we’re looking at the University of Wisconsin Commit Mr. Jansey that had himself a game on both sides of the ball. On defense, he did what he does best working gap to gap and triggering downhill in close space to shut down the run. Where he also shinned was being put at halfback where he finished the day with 176 rushing yards of 19 carries and broke a 71 yard rushing TD to start off the 2nd half. His performance was able to help Batavia punch their ticket to state where they look to take on Mt Carmel. Twitter

As we move down towards 2A football, we have St. Teresa’s Mr. Harper who finished the night with 102 rushing yards and broke a 53 yard TD run as well. This young man has a good frame standing at 6’2 which he uses to his advantage with his downhill style running. Here, he can keep his feet driving through contact to break weak grab tackles and continue to work through contact to keep the chains moving. Be sure to keep a lookout for his name to be called during the 2A IHSA State Championship game as he’s a workhorse that plays through the whistle each down. Twitter

Ross Riley
Ross Riley
Continuing with the halfback trend, Mr. Riley from Camp Point was able to get into the endzone for 3 TDs off 98 rushing yards in a 44-8 win over Colfax to punch their ticket to the state title. As they look to take on defending champs in Lena-Winslow, be sure to keep an eye on this young man in the rushing attack.
Again, another dominant halfback this time from Lena-Winslow. Mr. Dunker is one of a few talented halfbacks that Lena-Winslow has and was able to finish the Semi Final game with 3 rushing TDs to win 38-16 over Forreston. He’s listed as a defensive lineman above on the watchlist, be sure to keep an eye with his potential as a halfback as well. Twitter
Finishing off this article, we’re diving into Mr. Stewart who was a man on a mission in his matchup against Mt Carmel. This young man’s downhill style running was one to watch as he continued to play through contact not being afraid to lower his shoulder and keep his feet driving through contact. There are countless plays where he was met in the hole and broke the initial tackle to keep the chains moving. From this performance, he finished the night with 32 carries for 131 rushing yards and even had the announcers raving about his performance. All in all, this is an up and coming halfback that can be used as a power back taking a high amount of snaps each game. Twitterrn
