Max Vonhohenstraten is catching fire at the perfect time for the Bluffton Bobcats. The senior quarterback dominated the Colleton County defense on Friday, throwing for 505 yards and six touchdowns alongside two interceptions. An accurate passer with the confidence to deliver on his deep ball, Vonhohenstraten was sensational to close out region play with a win. He’s got a prime opportunity to lead his Bobcats to an enormous playoff victory on the road at Westwood.

There was no stopping “Tony O’ Touchdown” on Friday night. In a region title clash with Patrick Henry Academy, Tony O’Banner delivered on the ground, rushing for 121 yards and four scores on just 13 carries. His unbeatable quickness translated to the defensive side too, racking up a crazy 11 tackles, two quarterback hits, and an interception on defense. A freshman playing well beyond his years, O’Banner could be the ultimate X-factor in the Rebels’ pursuit of a fifth straight SCISA 1A state title.
Anthony Fripp

Thomas Heyward’s senior veteran is ready to finish out his high school career in style. Anthony Fripp was a force in all phases for Heyward in its region-clinching win over Patrick Henry. He was efficient on the ground, totaling 116 rushing yards and two scores on 12 attempts. Fripp was even more effective defensively, using his terrific play-reading and athleticism to rack up 10 tackles including two for loss. Championship teams rely on their proven stars to get it done, and expect Heyward to call on Fripp often in what could be another successful title run.
Kacy Fields may be the talk of the regular season, but Colton Phares Colton Phares 6’1″ | 185 lbs | DB Beaufort | 2023 State SC deserves some love too for Beaufort High. The senior star does a bit of everything each night for Bryce Lybrand’s squad, and he went off again on Friday. He began his outing with a swift 69-yard rushing score on a reverse from Fields and then showed his explosive video-game-like moves on an eye-popping 75-yard punt return. Oh, and he also made three solo tackles on defense and forced a fumble. An anchor in the secondary with the speed and hustle to contribute on all three phases, Phares could be the difference that propels the Eagles to another deep November run.
Jaxen Porter

There aren’t many players that match the extraordinary heart and hustle of Jaxen Porter. Beaufort Academy’s junior sensation produced again on Friday, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown in a region-sealing win at Bethesda Academy. Porter made the difference with his exceptional defensive skills, making seven tackles with a forced fumble and an interception. A hard-nosed young man with a special drive to succeed, Porter will be ready for a major role on both sides as Mark Clifford’s squad eyes a SCISA 2A state title.
Thomas Raisch

One of the most unheralded defensive stars in the Lowcountry, Thomas Raisch delivered another gem for the May River Sharks to help secure the second seed in Region 7-4A. Raisch’s elite quickness and tackling on defense were on display Friday, making 11 stops and 2.5 tackles for loss while returning a 40-yard interception to the house. A hard worker who has fit perfectly in Rodney Summer’s defense, Raisch is an elite playmaker and run stuffer to anchor a hard-nosed defense. His presence will be critical to the Sharks’ success in a first-round matchup against Malachi Washington and Myrtle Beach.
