Each of them led their teams to victories, and all of them had incredible production in the process. What it means is we get to see if any or all of them can repeat their performances at least one more time this year.
Carmello McDaniel Carmello McDaniel 5'8" | 175 lbs | RB Hartsville | 2024 State SC RB, Hartsville
McDaniel is always sort of on the cusp of going off, and he did so again against Lucy Beckham. With 20 carries, the junior rushed for 307 yards and four touchdowns. It boosted his season totals to 1,671 yards and 22 touchdowns. He’s also averaging a stout 10.8 yards per carry this year and made sure the Red Foxes would get a chance to play again.
Darren Lloyd RB, West Florence
Lloyd (pictured) got shut down in the regular-season finale against South Florence, only to bounce right back against Lugoff-Elgin to open the playoffs. Two weeks after the senior went off for 386 yards and six touchdowns against Hartsville, Lloyd put up a 361-yard, five-touchdown performance against L-E. The overwhelming bulk of his damage came in the second and third quarters, when he scored all five of his touchdowns.
Scott Saylor Scott Saylor 6'1" | 200 lbs | QB Carolina Forest | 2023 State SC QB, Carolina Forest
We’ve known for the better part of the season that Carolina Forest’s offense will follow Saylor’s lead. Against River Bluff, the senior proved it yet again. With just 10 completions and 15 attempts, he threw for 260 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for 52 yards. It was the sixth time this season he’s gone over 300 combined passing/rushing yards.
Cam Cumbee QB, Andrews
We’re going to excuse the fact that Cumbee was three-of-12 passing and had an interception. And that’s not because his three receptions went for 91 yards and a score. The senior rushed 11 times for 219 yards – just your average 19.9 yards-per-carry evening – and five touchdowns in the first-round win over Buford.
