Both of these teams are in that “elite” program category, and have the potential to meet each other again in the playoffs depending on what happens these next couple weeks with seeding. Here’s a look at the offensive standouts from the game:
Deshaun Buchanan Deshaun Buchanan 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Basha | 2023 State AZ , RB, Basha ’23
Buchanan looked explosive on Friday night, showing good vision with nice COD and top end speed to spring him loose into space. He showed a bit of how dynamic he can be, as he caught a TD on a check down where he made a man miss and showcased his strength to push his way into the endzone for six. Overall a very impressive performance from Buchanan as he played a crucial part in that close W for Basha. He ended the night with both of Basha’s scores.
Ca’Lil Valentine Ca’Lil Valentine 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Chandler | 2024 State AZ , RB, Chandler ’24
Valentine ran for 87 yards and scored Chandler’s lone TD on the night. As if he hadn’t already, he proved that he is a legit power 5 talent and proved that he can step up and compete in a big moments and big games. Excellent vision and burst with both top end speed and physicality, as he flashed both numerous times. Strong at the POC to run through and punish opponents when needed, and can also burn defenses with his speed. A well-polished Back and a special athlete with a high ceiling moving forward.
Demond Williams Demond Williams 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Basha | 2024 State AZ , QB, Basha ’24
Williams didn’t have a “break the stat sheet” kind of night, but his peformance and poise under pressure in a hostile environment was very impressive, as I know colleges will take notice of his competitive toughness he dislayed Friday night. He did a great job showcasing that dual threat ability to make plays on his feet when the pocket broke down or during coverage sacks. Excellent job commanding that offense in the 4th quarter to throw a dime with timing, placement, and touch on a 50 yard deep ball to set Basha up at the 1 to punch it in with Buchanan.
Bryson Dedmon Bryson Dedmon 5'9" | 155 lbs | WR Saguaro | 2024 State AZ , WR, Basha ’24
Dedmon also didn’t light up the stat sheet, but made the most crucial catch of the game on a 50 yard bomb down to the 1 to set up the go ahead Basha TD. Swift and clean route runner with good top end speed to take the top off a fast secondary. He did a great job looking the ball in to scure the catch and came up with a crucial play on the night.
Jaxon Branch Jaxon Branch 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Chandler | 2024 State AZ , WR, Chandler ’24
Although it was a quiet night for Chandler’s passing attack, Branch led Chandler in receiving with 4 catches for 58 yards. He’s a smooth route runner with twitch and continues to take leaps. He plays fast and possesses a super athletic skillset. I expect branch to be a major factor throughout the playoffs.
