The talent in this class in undeniable and many of these prospects are already getting some solid recruiting attention from schools. Here are some prospects in the class of 2025 whose stock is rising and are some of the top players in New York State.
Armani Cabrera Armani Cabrera 6’0″ | 165 lbs | DB Tottenville Highschool | 2025 State NY is getting the some of the most attention from colleges in the 2025 class in New York. The anchor of the secondary for Curtis High School in Staten Island Cabrera has really good range. Cabrera likely projects as a safety at the next level because of his instincts and willingness to tackle. Cabrera already holds offers Temple, Syracuse, and Missouri amongst a few others. Cabrera is still a little raw in man coverage but his skillset projects him as not only a Power 5 player but someone who can easily continue to be a top player in New York as he develops.

In what was a down year for a usual Section V powerhouse in Aquinas football there was a few bright spots, the main one being Running Back C.J. Robinson C.J. Robinson 5’11” | 170 lbs | RB University Prep | 2025 State NY . Robinson only had 11 carries his freshman season but showed promise. This season Robinson completely took over the backfield and had 199 carries, 1442 yards, 15TDs. Robinson is a really good athlete with a lean frame. Robinson knows how to beat defenders in space and is really good at using his eyes to find the best path past the line of scrimmage. Robinson shows really solid patience around the LOS which is impressive for a young back. Robinson proved he can carry the game on the ground for Aquinas but colleges likely will want to see some more involvement in the passing game or as a pass blocker from the backfield.
Terron Johnson Terron Johnson 5’11” | 165 lbs | DB Iona Prep | 2025 State NY had a couple interceptions during the regular season but his solid performance in first full season starting was capped off with an incredible pick-6 against Archbishop Stepinac in the NYCHSFL Semi-finals on Will Currid Will Currid 6’2″ | 195 lbs | QB Archbishop Stepinac | 2024 State NY . With incredible elite speed Johnson can hang with any receiver in New York. Still developing his ball skills there are really positive signs that Johnson is progressing. While he could be a little more physical as a tackler as only a sophmore Johnson is playing at a level most upperclassman never reach. Iona Prep routinely delivering prospects from their program and Johnson is one who not only is getting much better but could be one of the best players in the State come his senior season.
Coming from Canada Nicholas Penuvchev Nicholas Penuvchev 6’3″ | 210 lbs | QB Suffield Academy | 2025 State NewE has had a really solid first season for Canisius football. He split some time with Junior Vincent Zimmerman as he adjusted to his first season of high school football in America. Penuvchev has really solid arm talent and really nice touch on his throws. Penuvchev does a really good job of putting air under his deep ball and is really accurate down the field. Where we want to see Penuvchev improve is getting past his first read. Penuvchev does a really good job delivering the ball but occasionally gets stuck if his first guy is not open. More development mentally as a passer would help Penuvchev have a breakout season in 2023.

Isaiah Vanterpool Isaiah Vanterpool 6’2″ | 190 lbs | LB Moore Catholic | 2025 State NY has the size already to play as a defensive back at the next level. He is really lengthy and does a good job sticking to receivers in coverage. He plays a lot of OLB/SS/Nickel and if he adds to his frame could potentially play any of those positions at the next level. He has shown he can shed blocks and make plays around the line of scrimmage in addition to blitzing on pass plays. A very well rounded talent I really like what Vanterpool did this season and think he has tons of potential over the next two season.

Denzil (DJ) Williams Denzil (DJ) Williams 6’3″ | 285 lbs | OL Archbishop Stepinac | 2025 State NY has had a really solid year for Archbishop Stepinac and oozes potential. Archbishop Stepinac runs a unique offense that is a bunch of short passing, screens, and runs from shotgun/pistol. Williams was a perfect fit for this system because of his elite ability to move. At 295 pounds, Williams moves like he is 50 pounds lighter. Stepinac is often using Williams in space and pulling him down the field very often. Williams is such a great blocker in space and does a really good job of making blocks down the field before skill players with the ball get by him. Williams could use more reps in a more classic drop back passing situations but he has shown on film to be one of the best lineman in the state, regardless of class.
