Because of this, the running back position happens to matter a great deal, as the game may ride on the shoulders, and legs of some of the leaders in rushing throughout the state. Below, we have listed some of the top rushers in the state so far this year, as we believe they are worth the watch, as things will certainly change up on this list by the time the regular season comes.
Christian Perris

State

– Princeton
Perris currently sits atop our top spot on the list, with a total of 1,298 yards, compared to the second place leader in the state who is at a 34 yard deficit. Because of this close margin, Perris will more than likely look to perform at a high rate for his team, and himself in the coming weeks of the regular season. Going into his team’s next game, Perris already averages a total of 216.3 yards a game, with an additional average of 8.48 yards a carry. With this, Perris also has 22 TD’s, to 0 fumbles. Moving forward, we would like to see him continue to play with this high level of efficiency, and ball security.
Bradley Brown- Lee County
Brown, who has played 6 games as well, is not too far behind Perris’ rushing total. So far, Brown has a total of 1,264 yards on the ground, and has been playing with an average of 210.7 yards a game. In addition to this, Brown also totes the rock with an average of 8.60 yards a carry, and has seen 147 rushing attempts so far this year. As the rest of the regular season comes winding down, we would like to see him continue to find the end zone in ways that puts his team in a good position to win games. We have no doubt that he will be able to do so, as he has totaled 14 TD’s so far, and Lee County currently sits at a 6-0 record.
Keyshawn Breedlove- Central Davidson
Just like the few players above, Breedlove has also only played 6 games so far this season. In these 6 games, Breedlove has rushed for 1,212 yards, and has an average of 200 yards a game. This, along with his average of 8.1 yards a carry, comes on 147 rushing attempts, and also includes 18 TD’s, to only 1 fumble. As the rest of the season continues to be underway, we would like to see Breedlove continue to work on the way he runs through tackles, and protects the ball on contact. This will help take his game to the next level, which is impressive considering where he already stands.
Luke Bailey

– Providence
Bailey, who barely comes in at the 4th spot on this list, has only totaled 2 yards more on the ground than Mason Avery, our 5th ranked player on this list. To this point of the season, he has rushed for 1,202 yards, and has an average of 200.3 yards a game. Most impressively, Bailey has rushed for 16 TD’s, and has not fumbled the ball once. If he can continue to take care of the football, and is able to use his twitch, and ability to run through tackles, he has a chance of seeing himself on this list still in a few weeks time.
Mason Avery- West Lincoln
After only 6 games, Avery has already shown the ability to run up his rushing totals each game, but he has shown the ability to carry his team on his back. Currently, his team sits at a 4-2 record, and he has
accumulated a total of 1,200 yards. This high volume of yardage comes with an average of 200 yards a game, and 9.76 yards a carry. In addition to this, he has also had a rushing long of 71 yards. As the season progresses, we are interested to see how well he endures the beating that comes with playing the RB position down the stretch. We have no doubt that if he can continue to maintain, he may find himself on this list still by the end of the year.
