Over the last few decades, the Irish are the top program in Oregon in my opinion. After a few average seasons they look to be back and loaded with talent up and down the board. Their 35-31 win at #2 West Linn, and recent 49-0 win versus #8 South Medford, speak to where they are at as a team.
2.West Linn, OR (5-1)
As noted numerous times the Lions have the potential of winning multiple state titles in the coming years. The 42-6 drubbing of traditional WA state power Lake Stevens was just a glimpse of the future, as they are still a relatively young group.
3.Yelm, WA (6-0)
Yelm made a statement the first two weeks, dismantling two of Washington’s top programs (Camas & Union) by a combined score of 90-20. Since then they haven’t really played anybody, but their dominance has been off the charts. On the year they are beating opponents by an average score of 58-5.
4.Eastside Catholic, WA (6-0)
Year in and year out Eastside Catholic is one of the more dominant programs in the West. They backed up the hype once again, beating a good Garfield program last week 30-10.
5.Jesuit, OR (5-1)
The Crusaders feature maybe the top O line in the NW and 6-4 200-pound RB Payton Roth Payton Roth 6'4" | 200 lbs | RB Jesuit | 2023 State OR has been putting on a show all year. Roth had 290 yards and 5 TDs in the 52-18 win over a decent Westview team last week.
6.Glacier Peak, WA (5-1)
GP’s only loss was to a talented Rocklin, CA team 16-14 on the road in Cali. Washington St commit Trey Leckner Trey Leckner 6'2" | 215 lbs | ATH Glacier Peak | 2023 State WA has been off the charts good with double digit TDs through 6 weeks. It will be a battle versus Lake Stevens the last week of the season.
7.Tualatin, OR (5-1)
I’m continually more impressed with Tualatin. They lost a host of talent and size from last years talented team, who played in the 6A title game. The young guys have stepped up playing relatively even last week with West Linn, minus a few mistakes in the 42-30 loss.
8.Central Catholic, OR (5-1)
It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the Rams back in the title game. The 6A state champs beat Bellevue 24-23 to start the year which was not expected.
9.Bellevue, WA (4-2)
Ishaan Daniels Ishaan Daniels 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH Bellevue | 2023 State WA is the real deal but this isn’t the (14-0) state title team from a year ago. Two respectable losses to Central Catholic (OR) and Lake Stevens to start the season were tough. The Wolverines most likely won’t play a competitive game for at least another month.
10.ODea, WA (5-1)
O’Dea is right there with Eastside Catholic, losing by 7 a few weeks back. Jason Brown Jason Brown 5'10" | 205 lbs | ATH ODea | 2024 State WA and Kyan McDonald Kyan McDonald 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB ODea | 2024 State WA are two of the top 24s in the country so the future is bright.
11.Emerald Ridge, WA (5-1)
The Jaguars got big wins over Sumner and Curtis (42-13), with a 1 point loss to Puyallup to start the year. A lot will be determined with the upcoming contest versus defending state champ Graham-Kapowsin. Jake Schakel Jake Schakel 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Emerald Ridge | 2024 State WA has looked like the real deal hitting on 74% of his passes, and throwing 19 TDs/5 INTs.
12.Skyview, WA (5-1)
The Storm’s only loss was by 3 points to Oregon power Jesuit 24-21 to start the year. They have been underrated thus far with upcoming matchups versus Camas and Union which will be telling.
13.Lincoln, WA (6-0)
Gabarri Johnson Gabarri Johnson 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln | 2023 State WA has had a monster year as the Abes continue to win big games versus the likes of Camas and Skyline. Matchups versus Lakes and Spanaway Lake to close the year will be tough.
14.Garfield (5-1)
Garfield started out the year with a big win over Lake Stevens and then got handled by Eastside Catholic 30-10 last week. If they can figure out a way to beat O’Dea to close the year that would be huge heading into the playoffs.
15.Lake Stevens, WA (4-2)
The Vikings still have a lot to prove. The loss to Garfield, and 42-6 beatdown from #2 West Linn, OR doesn’t help. That said as they have beat the likes of Bellevue, and with a healthy Jayden Limar Jayden Limar 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Lake Stevens | 2023 State WA anything is possible.
16.Sumner, WA (5-1)
I would not want to play Sumner late in the year. They got tripped up by Emerald Ridge a few weeks back but have the potential of making a deep playoff run.
17.Gonzaga Prep, WA (4-2)
The Bullpups got thumped by St Johns in Washington DC 42-14 to start the year. Other then that they have looked great and should be in the mix come playoff time.
18.Summit, OR (5-1)
Oregon’s #1 ranked 5A team by a lot. The Storm lost 19-12 to one of Oregon’s top 6A programs (Tualatin) in the season opener. They likely will not be challenged the rest of the year.
19.Tigard, OR (6-0)
One of the state’s top overall programs. The Tigers have come back in a big way from a rare 2-8 season just a year ago. We will find out how real they are when they play West Linn, Tualatin, and Lake O to close the season.
20.Kennedy Catholic, WA (5-1)
Other then the season opening 26-14 loss to Eastside Catholic the Lancers have looked good and poised to make a playoff run.
21.Lakes, WA (5-0)
22.Lynden, WA (6-0)
23.Chiawana, WA (6-0)
24.Mountainside, OR (6-0)
25.Puyallup, WA (5-1)
