Which wide receivers in Middle Georgia are having big seasons this year?

Demare Franklin – Veterans
One of the leading receivers not only in Middle Georgia but across the peach state, Franklin continues to be an under the radar wideout who continues to impress each Friday night. A quick, twitchy receiver with consistent hands and playmaking ability, Franklin has produced over 100 yards receiving in each game so far this season. He’s been tough to stop through his first five games of the year, averaging over 137 yards per game and 12.5 yards per catch. He’s a vertical threat, but also dangerous in the short to moderate passing game as well. He’s an excellent route runner and knows ow to get yards after the catch. So far this season, Franklin has caught 55 passes for 688 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Carmelo Mays – Southwest
There’s plenty of under the radar talent in Macon tis year, and one of the breakout receivers to know in the area this year is Southwest’s Carmelo Mays. A crisp receiver with impressive ball skills, Mays has been tough for defensive backs to handle this year, catching 27 passes for an outstanding 642 yards and 9 touchdowns through six games. When the ball is in the air, he’s going to get it. He’s shown big-play ability all season, and when he makes a catch, it’s going for a big gain. He’s averaging an impressive 23.8 yards per catch, proving to be one of the most electric receivers in the area. He’s looking to score every time he has the ball, and he can do it in a number of different ways. He’s a true breakout receiver to know who has a chance to earn some serious D1 interest if he continues to have a big junior season.
Ricky Johnson – Houston County
A big-play receiver in Middle Georgia, Johnson is a quick, twitchy receiver who has quickly become one of the top receivers in the area. He has an outstanding young quarterback throwing him the ball, and e’s doing an excellent job of producing on a weekly basis this year. At 6-foot-1 165-pounds, he’s a natural runner with strong hands. He can line up in multiple spots at receiver, and when he has the ball, you can expect him to make a play. Leading the Bears to a strong 4-1 start to the season, Johnson has been one of the most productive receivers in the area, catching 35 passes so far this year for 600 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s averaging exactly 100 yards per game and 17.1 yards per reception this year. He appears to have D1-caliber talent, and as a junior, could see his recruitment start to pick up later this fall.
Arguably the most talented receiver in all of Middle Georgia, Anderson is an explosive receiver with game-changing speed. He’s coming off a terrific sophomore season in 2021 and has been extremely productive once again in 2022 as a junior. Leading Perry to a strong 5-1 record, Anderson has been a down-field threat all season and has had no problem finding the end-zone this year. He’s a go-to target and has showed why he’s an easy D1 talent. He’s not the biggest receiver at 5-foot-9 165-pounds, but his speed and playmaking ability allow him to beat defenses on a consistent basis. So far this season, Anderson has caught 30 passes for 585 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s averaging 19.5 yards per catch and just under 100 yards per game.
