Strake Jesuit had the majority of the momentum during the 1st half, but Strake Jesuit threw two interceptions at the end of the 2nd quarter which led to Dawson scoring 10 points putting them in the lead right before halftime. After that Strake and Dawson kept scoring back to back and the final score was 52-44 with Dawson’s victory. Although, Strake Jesuit lost they had some standout offensive power. In this article, I’ll be discussing the offensive standouts from The Strake Jesuit Crusaders.
#3 Bryce Lainer WR, RB Sr 5’8 160 lbs
Bryce Lainer is just a pure athlete. I have known about Bryce’s athleticism for a quite while he was one of the main reasons I went to this game. Despite his small stature, Bryce exhibits a lot of pressure on the field using his quickness, speed, and elusiveness. Even when Bryce isn’t carrying the ball he provides great support by blocking the man in front until the whistle blows. Bryce made a huge impact early on in the game by scoring the 1st touchdown for a 70-yard reception. If the Strake Jesuit quarterback threw the ball to Bryce more they could have had a better chance of coming back. Bryce ended the game with 8 receptions with 160 receiving yards and one 70-yard reception touchdown.
#5 Giacomo Valente RB, MLB Sr 6’0 200 lbs
Giacomo Valente was a tough and powerful runner. Giacomo couldn’t be brought down easily and could run through any defenders. Giacomo was both big and quick making him an essential running back for the Strake Jesuit Crusaders. Giacomo had a huge 35-yard run that later led Strake Jesuit to a touchdown. Giacomo ended the game with 10 carries with 72 rushing yards.
#22 Devin Baylor RB, WR Sr 5’10 200 lbs
Devin Baylor is a fast wide receiver and running back. Devin wasn’t one of Strake Jesuit’s key players and didn’t have a lot of chances to run the ball, but whenever Devin touched the ball he got results. When Devin went into motion he couldn’t be touched leaving everyone in his dust. Devin ended the game with 50 all-purpose yards and one rushing touchdown.
#23 Ret Thibodeaux WR Sr
Ret Thibodeaux is a big and durable wide receiver. At 1st glance, I thought Ret was a tight-end because of his height and body frame. I think the tight-end position would suit him better at the collegiate level but performed adequately as a wide receiver. Ret has an ample amount of speed, but his specialty is being a strong runner plowing through the field and breaking tackles. Ret ended the game with 85 all-purpose yards and 2 receiving touchdowns.
