This season has been tough for Paetow winning the state championships last year in district 5A, but this year they play in district 6A. Also, this week Paetow’s offensive coordinator and head coach resigned during week 8 in the high school football season. Despite all of that Paetow did not waver. Cinco Ranch this season has been running up the scoreboard scoring at least 40 points a game. By halftime, the score was tied 7-7 which is the lowest amount of points scored for Cinco Ranch going into the 3rd quarter this season. However, by the end of the game, the score was 24-35 with Cinco Ranch’s victory. This was an amazing game and even though Paetow lost the game, their offensive coordinator and their head coach Paetow on both offense and defense still had a great showcase and great standouts.
#1 Damyrion Phillips RB Sr 5’9 170 lbs
Damyrion Phillips is the type of running back that is consistent and persistent in fighting for every single yard he gets. Damyrion is dependable especially when you desperately need a couple of yards for that 1st down. Damyrion ran the ball like he was 6 feet plus being hard to bring down even by the biggest defensive players. Damyrion showcased a lot of heart and fortitude against The Cinco Ranch Cougars. Damyrion wrapped up the night with one singular touchdown.
#46 Alexander Kilgore ILB, RB Sr 6’2 210 lbs
Alexander Kilgore is a straight-up athlete playing on both offense and defense. Whether Alexander was a linebacker or a running back he dominated at either role. On defense, Alexander read the plays and instantly went after the ball carrier delivering a devastating tackle. One pass play Alexander read resulted in him catching an interception. On offense, Alexander didn’t always line up as a running back, but when he did get the chance to run the ball Cinco Ranch’s defense struggled to stop him. Alexander had a big 40-yard run right down the middle shaking off many defenders. Thanks to Alexander’s run a few plays later Paetow was able to score a touchdown. Alexander is a top college prospect having a lot of college and university offers but has decided to commit to Southern Methodist University. Alexander ended the game with one interception and one touchdown.
#0 David Hicks David Hicks 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Paetow | 2023 State TX Jr DE Sr 6’4 270 lbs
Not only is David Hick the ideal size for a defensive end he is also quick off the ball, agile, versatile, and possesses great athletic ability. Being the #1 player in the whole state of Texas David Hicks David Hicks 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Paetow | 2023 State TX was unstoppable against The Cinco Ranch Cougars. David has a rather unique high school football career playing for three different high schools being at Morton Ranch High School, Allen High School, and now Paetow High School. However, no matter where David plays he is still a perfect defensive end. David is great at attacking the edge, using his power and speed to break through any obstacle in his way to make the play. David’s strength is incredible every play he would drive the offensive linemen back into the backfield with minimum effort and chase down the running back or pressure the quarterback making him rush a lot of passes. Being such a great athlete David is a top college prospect catching the attention of numerous amount of colleges and universities, but he recently decided to commit to one which was Texas A&M University.
#5 Christian Hurd DB Sr 5’10 190 lbs
Christian Hurd is a commendable defensive back. Christian provided good coverage not allowing too much space between him and his receiver. Even if the receiver caught the pass Christian would instantly bring him down allowing little gain. Christian had great read and positioning preventing a pass that would put Cinco Ranch very close to their end zone and intercepting the pass himself and running it down to Paetow’s end zone for a 91-yard pick-six touchdown. This was the standout play on defense and made Christian stand out to everyone at the stadium.
