Here is a look at some of the top performances from athletes around north-central Iowa during Week 7:
Connor Carver Connor Carver 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2023 IA – Fort Dodge – QB
For a senior, Homecoming is always a special time. Connor Carver Connor Carver 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2023 IA made sure his classmates would enjoy it on the football field, as the Fort Dodge senior quarterback threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns in a whipping of Storm Lake.
Carver was extremely accurate, putting both his big arm and smartness on display by completing 14 of 18. He also ran for another 67 yards and a sixth score in the game, again, showcasing his skills that include an improved run game and read-option attack.
A multi-year starter, Carver has all the tools to be an exceptional quarterback at the college level. He has committed to Bemidji State.
Javion Jondle Javion Jondle 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Fort Dodge | 2023 State IA – Fort Dodge – WR
Like his fellow senior quarterback, Connor Carver Connor Carver 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2023 IA , Fort Dodge all-stater Javion Jondle Javion Jondle 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Fort Dodge | 2023 State IA had a memorable Homecoming. Jondle caught five passes for 149 yards and found his way to the end zone twice. He has excellent size, great hands and his athleticism allows him to get separation from even the best secondaries in the state.
Jondle has placed himself on the school’s career receiving list in good company alongside the likes of current University of Northern Iowa receiver Ty Kershaw and William Penn’s Trey Mosley. He is tied with Mosley for second for the most career receiving TDs with 21 and is just 94 yards from reaching 2,000 for his career.
Sam Myer – St. Edmond – RB/LB
Keep an eye on this kid, as St. Edmond sophomore Sam Myer made quite the impact this past week. Myer, stepping into extensive varsity action on offense for the first time, ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching a nine-yard TD. He has started on defense at linebacker all year for the Gaels.
Myer has a low center of gravity and great balance, which allows him to shift between would-be-tacklers on the eight-player field. And when he gets past the first wave, good speed allows him to out-run most defenders.
Justin Loseke Justin Loseke 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Southeast Valley | 2023 State IA – Southeast Valley – DL/LB
Last year, Justin Loseke Justin Loseke 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Southeast Valley | 2023 State IA benefited from having Aaron Graves opposite him on the defensive side of the ball as Southeast Valley won a state title. With Graves in Iowa City as a Hawkeye, Loseke has faced constant double-teams. But he has still found ways to dominate games.
This past Friday, Loseke recorded eight tackles and had two for loss as the Jaguars pitched a shutout against Pocahontas Area. Loseke has great size, which could lead him to play along the defensive line, but is fast enough off the ball that he could also become a college-level linebacker.
Max Hough – GTRA – QB/DB
There is a saying that goes something like, regardless of the size of the game, if you can play, you can play. That holds true for GTRA’s Max Hough. While some might not fully invest into the eight-player game, what Hough is able to do would find a home at the 11-player level without an issue.
This past week, Hough did it all on offense. He threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns, completing 12 of 16, while running 13 times for 186 yards and two more scores. To complete his night, he caught a touchdown pass. Oh, and for good measure, he was in on 9.5 tackles on defense.
