Which South Georgia backs are seeing their stock rise?
Prep Redzone has the latest…
Keenan Phillips – Bainbridge
An elusive back with impressive burst, Phillips is a South Georgia back who knows how to accelerate through the line of scrimmage and take off down the field. Thee impressive junior shows quick feet, changes directions on a dime, and has a natural running style that can be tough for defenses to contain. He’s a good runner in the open field and is looking to score on any particular run. He’s playing better and better and showing that he’s absolutely one of the more underrated backs in South Georgia this year. He’s coming off a big game against Shaw two Friday’s ago when he rushed 10 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns in 42-13 win. He shows explosiveness when given space to run and he’s only going to get better and better.
Matthew Fuller – Wayne County
Another outstanding junior back in South Georgia to know, Fuller is a back with plenty of speed who knows how to fly past defenders down the field. He’s been extremely productive all year and coming off an impressive performance last weekend against New Hampstead, rushing 30 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown, in a massive 31-24 victory. He’s a back who can put an offense on his back, and even as a junior, he’s shown why he’s one of the top overall backs in South Georgia this fall. Through his first seven games this season, Fuller has rushed for 897 yards on 114 carries, giving him an average of 7.9 yards per carry. He’s also averaging just under 130 yards per game to go along with his 14 rushing touchdowns. He may not be “under the radar” very long if he continues to run this way the rest of the season.
Damello Jones, RB, Swainsboro:
The Swainsboro Tigers rotate a lot of backs, but one that came up big recently is two-way standout, Damello Jones. Not only is he a tough, hard-hitting linebacker, but he’s an excellent option on offense as a running back. He’s a shifty back with a lean frame at 6-foot-1 175-pounds but shows tremendous burst as well. He’s elusive, can break tackles, and he’s someone who could see more carries and opportunities come his way as the season moves along. One of the top athletes on the team and in the area, Jones is coming off a big game last weekend against East Laurens, rushing just nine times for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the big victory. He’s an under the radar back in the 2024 class to keep a close eye on moving forward.
