Dylan Clark
Dylan Clark
Ron Peduzzi and the Hilton Head Christian Academy Eagles weren’t sold on what they’d be getting with new quarterback Dylan Clark this year, but the junior defied expectations again in a win over Thomas Heyward on Friday. Clark showed off his tremendous poise and accuracy, connecting on 17 of 26 passes for 354 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 63 rushing yards with three scores. He accounted for all five HHCA touchdowns in the game to power his Eagles to victory in a matchup of defending SCISA state champions. Clark can hit his targets on the run and is exceptional at reading the play and taking what the defense gives. He rose to the moment against the Rebels, dialing up a beautiful deep pass to Isaiah Anderson and finding Qayden Turner on a critical fourth down play. He’s started to find his groove as he gets ready for a statement game against Hudson Spivey at Pee Dee Academy.
Christian Tilton
Christian Tilton
Christian Tilton raises his game when the lights are the brightest, and he did it again for John Paul II in an enormous road win over Hilton Head Prep. Tilton was untouchable on the ground, rushing for 278 yards and three touchdowns in the victory at the Dolphins on Friday. He did his damage early with two electric runs to set up a pair of scores thanks to his tremendous vision and acceleration downfield. If Tilton can take the next step in his passing abilities with explosive target Jackson Ogden, the Golden Warrior offense will be a pain to deal with come playoff time.
Cole Davis
Cole Davis
It was another masterpiece of a game for Colleton Prep’s Cole Davis, who sliced through a strong Bethesda Academy defense Friday for 287 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries. Davis has revolutionized the War Hawks’ offense this year, displaying his quick feet and tremendous agility to find seams downfield. He’s also a capable passer with the elusiveness to scramble and buy time while making strong throws, but he’ll do most of his work on the ground. Davis is writing a tremendous script for a Colleton Prep team that is defying all expectations and is looking like a genuine SCISA 2A contender.
Mikell Tucker Mathis
Mikell Tucker Mathis
The Patrick Henry Academy Patriots are thriving in their first year back at 11-man football, and Mikell Tucker Mathis is helping lead the way on both sides of the field. He was incredibly efficient filling in for quarterback Hugh Fairey, completing just two of three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown while shining on the ground with 158 rushing yards and two scores. Mathis has the instincts and athleticism to take over a game and is lethal when he finds a lane in the open field. He brought the same intensity on defense in the win over Dorchester Academy, adding three stops including a tackle for loss. Still just a sophomore, Mathis is becoming a versatile star for a Patrick Henry team with the talent to contend in Class 1A.
Brandon King
Brandon King
Laurence Manning is finding its groove after allowing under 17 points in three straight games, and senior Brandon King has been an important spark to fuel the defense. King wreaked havoc at defensive back Friday night, recording 11 tackles on top of an interception in a shutout victory over Porter-Gaud. King was dominant in his coverage all night and showcased his nonstop intensity to wrap up tackles. He’s a terrific leader on the field and shows an impressive knack for jumping routes and anticipating passes. With just a few games left in his high school career, expect King to continue to elevate his game on both sides of the ball for a Swampcat team that is picking up steam at the right time.
