We kick out the best five nominees from North Dakota High School football coaches in Week 9, as next week, we will finally kick our tires into the playoffs! I still cannot believe how fast this season flew.
Dylan Lamont, QB, Grand Forks Central (2023)
Stat Line: 22/34 passing, 260 total yards, three total touchdowns (2 pass, 1 run)
- Dylan was the ring-leader for Grand Forks Central to get a win over the #1 team in the state in Valley City.
- He showed a fluid touch ball with added arm strength on it and got the ball out quickly on his release consistently in their win last Friday night.
- Dylan had excellent deep-ball accuracy on one of his routes and showed great tuneage with his demeanor all night long for the Knights’ offense.
- Love his ability to fire-pop over the middle of the field, as he showed the distinctive vision to react to the coverage with his progressions and swiftly use his ball placement to get the double overtime over undefeated Valley City.
- A late-season stockriser with no offers yet.
Mason Klabo Mason Klabo 6'0" | QB Fargo Davies | 2025 State ND , QB, Fargo Davies (2025)
Stat Line: N/A
- Mason continues to show why he likely will be QB1 in our upcoming 2025 rankings soon, as this young man’s command keeps developing significantly when he advances the ball deep.
- He can throw the ball on all three levels of the field, and blossoms with the arm strength he has developed to use the right strength for the right situation, showing off his young yet encouraging football IQ as the commander of the Eagle’s offense.
- He had a ton of looks last Friday night with his touch ball over the top of the secondary, as his connection with 2023 WR Raymond Brown Raymond Brown ATH Fargo Davies | 2023 State is churning at the perfect time of the season for the Eagles to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Jack Simmers Jack Simmers 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Grand Forks Central | 2024 State ND , WR, Grand Forks Central (2024)
Stat Line: 10 receptions, 154 receiving yards, one touchdown
- Jack was Dylan Lamont’s main go-to guy over the middle of the field and his deep routes, and Jack made a huge splash with his yards after contact on several routes last Friday night against Valley City.
- His route-running ability showed some smooth awareness in his ability to find the seams over the middle of the field and execute to Valley City’s weaknesses in their linebacking and secondaries.
- Jack might not be the fastest WR we have ever seen, but his instinct-cutting ability as far as getting separation off of his polished route-running ability and fearless chip on his shoulder paved for double-digit receptions and just over 15 yards per catch in Week 9 against one of the best teams in the state of North Dakota.
Raymond Brown Raymond Brown ATH Fargo Davies | 2023 State , WR, Fargo Davies (2023)
- Raymond is now a multi-timer “Big Dog of the Week” nominee for Fargo Davies, and when I watched the tape last week, it was easy to see why he keeps getting nominated as he showed another asset to his game against Bismarck Century we haven’t seen yet on tape efficiently.
- His ability to use his longer than he looks 5’11 175 pound frame to create just enough contact level to maneuver his tailback thru his area with his blocking ability is something we saw on numerous occasions last Friday night, and this will undoubtedly help Raymond’s chances of getting that first football offer by adding another skill set to his game.
- Raymond yet again showed off the feisty burst he has from start to finish as he chopped up an 84-yard receiving touchdown last week that showed the significant finished speed and burst out of his route for sure.
Jack Zimmer, DB/WR, Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central (2024)
Stat Line: Zero catches allowed, six tackles, two interceptions (including the game-winner), showed “Randy Moss” type feel getting the ball over the top of the offense. Unfortunately, no football tape is available on Jack’s performance in Week 9!
