Highlights
Mccarty seems to have slipped through the cracks as an elite QB in the state; however, the film says he’s in that conversation. As a top-tier dual-threat QB McCarty possesses all the tools to be a potential to be a power five guy. With an extremely live arm, Mccarty has natural pop to his throws and doesnt lose velocity when throwing on the run or off platform. McCarty is also a magician when improvising and is one of the best escape artists in the state. His sense of timing to get out of the pocket, quick twitch to make defenders miss and close quarters, and burst in the open field make him one of the more exciting players to watch. Rather he’s buying time or picking up yardage as a runner, McCarty is dynamic in the open field and can make something from nothing consistently.
Kam Shanks

Kam Shanks
Shanks has quietly become one of the state’s biggest home runners. As a receiver or return ace Shanks is an elite threat to score if the ball is in his hands. When lined up at the outside his game-changing changing speed can take the top off defenses, be used to create in space with screens, or beat guys to the spot against man coverage. As a return man, he shows excellent vision and anticipation when exposing creases. This knack for being able to shift gears at the right time makes him an excellent special teams weapon. Shanks is one of the more entertaining prospects to watch and could benefit any team at the next level.
Devyn Pearman
Devyn Pearman
Perryman is one of the more explosive players in the state and can shift the game in multiple ways. As a slot receiver, he has uncanny speed and explosiveness out of his cuts and is a match-up nightmare. Pearman reminds me of an all-state point guard that uses picks to create space for himself when he has the ball in his hands on screenplays. He shows great vision, instinct, and burst when reading blocks and seems to get every yard possible in these situations. This skill also translates to him being an elite return ace in the state. He’s constantly given his offense excellent field position and momentum plays. With half of the season to go, look for Perryman to be one of the more productive slot receivers in the state.
Jordan Smith

Jordan Smith
Though Smith is in the class of 2026, he is making a significant impact this season as a freshman on a varsity squad. He has vision beyond his years, seems to anticipate the gaps opening up, and gets to the right spot more often than not. Smith shows excellent lateral quickness when working the line of scrimmage and is explosive on his cutbacks and jump cuts. He shows solid straight-line speed in the open field; however, he can finish runs with authority and generate yards after contact. Look for Smith to climb up the ranks and possibly be a diamond in the rough within his class.
Caleb Groce
Caleb Groce
Caleb Groce
Though Groce is still in the developmental stage, he’s shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season. As a QB, Groce is a great athlete with the potential and size to develop into a legitimate next-level player. With tremendous speed and burst, Groce uses his to carry the Pell City offense as a runner and an escape artist in the pocket. In addition, Groce displays solid instinct and improvisational skills – giving his receivers a chance to make plays downfield. Though he’s a run-first QB, Groce has shown an ability to make throws on the run, off-platform, and get solid zip on the ball. If Groce can develop over time, he can become one of the better dual threats in the 2024 class.
