Every team is trying their best to make it to the state championship. 4A has seen some pretty good football being played this year. There are a few teams with bad taste around their mouths from last year.
Clarksdale
The Wildcats from the Delta have won their division and they will face off against Choctaw Central next week. Clarksdale fell short last year against Louisville. At the end of that game the referees missed a twelfth man on the field for Louisville. That was the talk of last year’s playoffs in 4A. Clarksdale had been left wondering “what if” all last season. That doesn’t sit well with the Wildcats.
Choctaw Central
These guys have found their way to the playoffs. Keyshawn Ben is a sophomore that is leading them and has this team at .500. The job is not finished. The Warriors want to put in a big push for their seniors. Nobody wants to go home early. Now that they have made it into the playoffs it is time to fight. They kept Leake Central from winning by eight last night.
Itawamba AHS
Ty Davis, Isaac Smith Isaac Smith 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Itawamba Agricultural | 2023 State MS and Layth Holliday are ready to lead this team to the promised land. The Indians are undefeated and hungry. Their team wants that gold ball and they have been playing very hard to get it. A new season starts Friday. What they have done during the regular season is out of the window. Can Itawamba get over the hump?
Louisville
Everybody knows what Louisville brings to the table playing 4A football. They have the most 4A state championships with seven. This is their time of the year. Last year they fell short to Caledonia and that hasn’t been sitting too well with the Wildcats. Gabriel Moore Gabriel Moore 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Louisville | 2023 State MS and Christavious Savior Christavious Savior 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Louisville | 2023 State MS have been on a mission. These guys want to go into the playoffs and make some noise. I don’t think it is likely for us to see this Wildcat team exit the playoffs early.
Houston
Houston has been playing good ball. A lot of people were bragging on Ripley and Houston took them down last week. That shows how good this Hilltopper team is. It will be interesting to see how they fare in this year’s playoffs. Having a good regular season is fine, but you have to finish the job. Can Houston finish the job this year?
