DOTHAN, Alabama -- Quarterback Jaylen Epps threw for four touchdown passes, and the #4 Central-Phenix City defeated #9 Dothan Wolves 35-28 in a key Class 7A, Region 2 game at Rip Hewes Stadium. Every time Central would score, Dothan would cut the lead back to a touchdown but couldn't get any closer in the game.

Epps had a massive game as he completed 15-of-20 passing for 274 yards and four touchdowns with 68 yards on nine carries in the win. "We battled, and Dothan is a good football team," said Red Devils head coach Patrick Nix. "We made some big plays on offense. Coming on the road and getting a region win is big for our team. Staying up two scores was huge in the game. I thought Jaylen played tough, protecting the football. He ran the ball effectively and threw the ball very well tonight."

Central-Phenix City

#1 QB Jaylen Epps (6-1 190) Senior - Epps had a great game passing a long run that set up the first Red Devils' touchdown. The senior QB completed 15-of-20 passing for 274 yards & four touchdowns. He had a couple more TD passes that were nullified due to penalties. For the season, Epps has completed 106-of-181 passing for 1,523 yards with 15 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Epps is a very athletic runner but can stand in the pocket to make a big throw. He has great speed that can run away from a defensive player. He can cut with the best runners when he runs the ball to get away from a tackler. Epps has a good touch with the ball and a solid arm for the deep pass. Epps can stand in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield.

https://twitter.com/AL7AFootball/status/1575640781553278977?s=20&t=Eiu0X9buZx72K4NNdK0CBQ

#2 WR [player_tooltip player_id='235361' first='Karmello' last='English'] (6-1 190) Senior - English had a big game against Dothan. The senior WR had seven receptions for 97 yards, a touchdown, 17 yards on two carries, and a touchdown. English used his speed and athleticism to create space in the Dothan secondary. He scored the first touchdown of the game on a 1-yard touchdown run. For the season, English has 41 receptions for 443 yards and four touchdowns. English plays a big role in returning punts and kicks, but not many teams will give him a chance on making the special teams big play. English has great speed, can go in traffic to make a catch along with having great speed. Also, the senior WR can run the ball on reverses or can catch a screen pass out of the backfield. English can catch the deep ball or take a short pass for a big play. English has great hands and runs good routes. English will be a big time player at the next level. At one time, he committed to Auburn but now has opened his recruiting again. English holds offers from every SEC school along with Cincinnati, Florida State and Miami.

https://twitter.com/AL7AFootball/status/1575643885774114816?s=20&t=Eiu0X9buZx72K4NNdK0CBQ

#8 WR [player_tooltip player_id='237804' first='Cameron' last='Coleman'] (6-4 185) Junior - Coleman played a significant role against Dothan in stretching the Dothan secondary. The junior wide receiver made some big plays on extended pass plays. Coleman had three receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown in the game. Coleman has the size in the end zone with his 6-4 frame on just out jumping the opposition. Coleman has 18 receptions for 357 yards and five touchdowns for the season. Coleman has excellent speed to stretch the field, along with great hands. Coleman does a great job of route running. The junior WR can be a big target at the next level standing at 6-4. He has the length to bail out a quarterback with his leaping ability. At the next level, Coleman has offers from Auburn, Oregon, Texas A&M and Alabama State. He should be getting more as the season goes on.

https://twitter.com/AL7AFootball/status/1575652155481944064?s=20&t=Eiu0X9buZx72K4NNdK0CBQ

#7 WR [player_tooltip player_id='145243' first='Jared' last='Wiley'] (6-1 190) Senior - Wiley had the great touchdown catch beating the defender off the ball and scored in the end zone. Wiley had three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown. For the season, Wiley has 21 receptions for 291 yards and two touchdowns. Wiley has great speed along with great hands. He could be the best route runner on the team. Wiley is very crafty getting off the line of scrimmage and is a great blocker at his position.

https://twitter.com/AL7AFootball/status/1575665796046430208?s=20&t=Eiu0X9buZx72K4NNdK0CBQ

#4 DB [player_tooltip player_id='125522' first='AJ' last='Harris'] (6-1 195) Senior - Harris had a big game against Dothan. With Dothan running the football for most of the game, Harris had 20 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. The senior DB is a great tackler and doesn't mind making the big play on defense. Harris can track the ball down in the air or find the running back to make a tackle. The Georgia commit is one of the best DBs in the nation. Harris can just shut down one side of the field because no one wants to attack him in the air. Harris can high point the football with his athletic ability and will be a big asset for Georgia next season.
