Alta Hawks
Alta went on the road and jumped out to a 27-7 first-quarter lead against Bonneville. The Hawks added 15 in the second quarter and allowed just seven points in the second half for the 42-14 win. The Receiving duo of Jace Turner and Noah Flores Noah Flores 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Alta | 2023 State UT hauled in all five of quarterback Matt McKea’s touchdown passes. The Lakers had a potent offense for much of the year, but the Hawks’ defense dismantled them all night. The Hawks soared to a win and could keep their momentum going for a few more weeks.
Wasatch Wasps
The Wasps entered the playoffs 4-6 and took on a Woods Cross team with quality wins against numerous 5A top-10 teams. Wasatch trailed 7-0 after the first quarter, but 21 points in the second and another touchdown d gave them a 28-14 lead going into the fourth. The Wildcats scored 13 in the final quarter but couldn’t connect on a late PAT, equating to a 28-27 victory. Quarterback Mack Kelson and running back Chris Cook combined for four touchdowns as the Wasps advanced to the second round with a big road win.
Olympus Titans
The Titans came out ready to play at Payson high school as they took on the Lions. Linebacker Weston Olsen made the game’s first big play with a pick-six in the game’s opening two minutes. After that, Olympus would score at least a touchdown in each of the game’s first three quarters to help them build a 24-0 lead. The Titans dense allowed one touchdown in the third quarter but were sensational the rest of the night, helping Olympus lock in the 24-8 victory.
Cedar Valley Aviators
The Aviators scored 38 of their 52 points in the second half to beat the Vikings last Friday. Viewmount jumped out to a 14-0 lead that would eventually become a 21-14 lead at the half. After the break, Cedar Valley would go on to dominate the third quarter to take the lead and pull away from Viewmount. Aviators receivers Kekai Baker and Taygen Hansen hauled in three of quarterback Cooper Thomson’s four touchdown passes. Cedar Valley’s round-one win could be the first of many this postseason.
