From a young quarterback in Rock Hill to a physical downhill linebacker from across the Catawba River in Fort Mill, it’s difficult to narrow down the list, but you’ll want to keep an eye on these few guys as region play progresses.
OFFENSE
Jaylon Hoover, Clover
Hoover is an excellent game manager in that he won’t put his team in danger. He excels in keeping plays alive on the run and he can launch it once he finds his open man, like we saw on his film. He is a two sport athlete as he plays basketball as well. He stands at 6’1 and his stat line is impressive as well as he’s thrown for 1,103 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 231.5 yards per game.
Finley Polk Finley Polk 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Northwestern | 2025 State SC , Northwestern
Polk is only a sophomore but the accuracy on his throws is impressive to watch on film. He sells the pump fake well to make a throw over the middle or the shallow routes in the Air Raid offense that he manages well. He checks in at 6’2 and plays baseball as well. He has thrown for 1435 yards and 14 touchdowns so far.
Tyler Jones Tyler Jones 5'11" | 225 lbs | RB Catawba Ridge | 2023 State SC , Catawba Ridge (pictured above)
Jones looks like a linebacker when he’s running the football. He is physical and has a good burst of speed once he gets out into the open field. Arm tackling won’t work against this guy. He gets up field quickly after catching the ball out of the backfield as well. He has run for 609 yards on 103 carries and has scored six touchdowns.
DEFENSE
Brody Tesimale Brody Tesimale 5'11" | 215 lbs | LB Catawba Ridge | 2023 State SC , Catawba Ridge
Tesimale is a big reason behind a Copperheads’ defense that has only allowed an average of 8 points per game so far this season. He is a downhill, attacking linebacker who doesn’t wait for the ball to come to him. He will come across the middle and blow up the ball carrier or chase down the quarterback or a running back in space.
Zantawn Nelson, South Pointe
Nelson’s play recognition is fun to watch. Once he sees the play, he defeats blocks quickly to make a play on the ball. His closing speed is impressive as well.
AJ Miller AJ Miller 6'2" | 250 lbs | DL South Pointe | 2023 State SC , South Pointe
Miller’s ability to move around and make plays in the backfield is something that has stood out in the two times we’ve been able to watch the Stallions. He defeats blocks well and can bull rush the passer within seconds of the snap. He committed to Gardner Webb University on Sunday.
