Jennings rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets beat Broome 32-27. He got a lot of those yards running over and through would-be tacklers. For Jennings, who’s listed at 5-4 and 170 pounds, it’s all about effort.
“I’m not very big in size,” he said .”But my heart’s very big. And I’m going to show them what I’ve got. My OL gave me the opportunity to do what I can do, and I used my skills from there.”
Jennings said his physical style of running comes from a little bit of a chip on his shoulder.
“I just got tired of losing,” he said. “I just want to win. I want to put the team on my back and just get them right.”
Jennings’ effort was supported by JaQuan Jeter, a fast, shifty back who contributed 36 yards and a score on nine carries.
“It feels great,” Jennings said of sharing the backfield with Jeter. “If I’m hurt, if I’m tired, there’s a person behind me who can do the same stuff I can do.”
Khristian Means Khristian Means 6'2" | 215 lbs | TE Union County | 2023 SC rarely leaves the field for the Yellow Jackets, and Friday was no exception. The TE/DE did plenty for Union County, as his strip-sack early in the game led to a Yellow Jackets score. His biggest contribution, though, came on the offensive side of the ball. Means hauled in a one-handed, off-balance catch for a nine-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, putting Union County up by 11. Broome countered right away, but Means’ score proved the difference.
“I’ve been working all summer for moments like that,” Means said of his TD grab. “It really comes down to just making a play.”
He’s no stranger to that, and he’s kind of a unicorn. At 6-2 and 215, he’s not a huge prototype TE. However, he’s true to the position. He’s not an extra tackle, and he’s not an overgrown wide receiver. He’s equally adept and blocking and receiving, and truly loves his role.
“I think I’m a balanced player,” he said. “I know I can block and I know I can catch. I’ll do whatever the team needs.”
Broome has a gem in freshman RB Jaylen McGill. McGill racked up 129 rushing yards on just 15 carries, including touchdown runs of 33, 5, and 2 yards.
Kamajay Bracket-Brannon is a highlight waiting to happen for the Centurions. The Broome QB threw for 194 yards and a score, rushing for 66 more. He seems to be at his best when a play breaks down, using his speed and elusiveness to pick up positive yardage. He throws well on the move, too, and never seems to give up on a play. His biggest play of the night answered Mean’s late score, with a 54-yard bomb to Carlos Cohen that pulled the Centurions to within five.
