But in the end, Indian Land’s defense made one final goal line stand as Jaden Peoples knocked away a pass in a 28-21 win to kick off region 3-4A play, something Indian Land coach Adam Hastings was quick to point out after the game.
“Jaden had two passes completed against him for touchdowns last year. I told him, you’re going to make a play. Don’t worry. You’re a playmaker sometime in the game and that’s the play he made,” Hastings said.
The second half was one of shifts. Jaxon Schiedt (pictured above) is a better runner than people probably give him credit for. He glided through the defense on quarterback power plays to the right and ripped off a 32-yard run in the third quarter to set up a Myles Stinson 8-yard touchdown run on the direct snap to take a 14-7 lead with 6:20 to play.
Javarus Gutherie was key to York’s 14-point run after that score in the third. He had a huge kickoff return which led to a 4-yard touchdown run where he pin balled his way into the end zone with 3:57 to play in the third to tie the game at 14. He runs with power and purpose to get north and south with the ball, as evidenced with a 60-yard run on the next drive.
The fourth quarter kicked off with a 7-yard touchdown run from Ayden Davis Ayden Davis 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB York | 2024 State SC to take a 21-14 lead with 11:04 to play in the contest. Davis picked his way through the defense throughout the evening and is not afraid to take a hit.
“They’re (Davis and Gutherie) good players. They understand the offense and what we’ve gotta do to win and I think they’ve started following their drops. Early on, we were pulling two guys and we were trying to cut inside those two instead of staying on their hip pocket. Later in the game, they started staying in their and it started busting open for them,” York coach Dean Boyd on the performance of Davis and Gutherie.

Schiedt came back on the next series and scored on a 6-yard run to take a 28-21 lead with 3:43 to play in the contest.
Breaking the scoreless drought in the second quarter
Jaden Peoples stuffed Davis on 4th down early in the second quarter. And that broke the scoring drought as Myles Stinson punched it in, thanks to a 6-yard TD run on the jet sweep to put Indian Land on the board at 7-0.
York was all out of sorts with pre snap penalties that led to a 3rd and 23 late before the break. That was before Davis connected with Gutherie on a 70-yard screen pass for a touchdown to tie the game at 7 going into the halftime locker room.
