Region play is here and most teams in York County will compete in region 3-4A, which if you talk to local coaches, believe is the toughest region in the state.

Teams are also up against the weather as this week's games have been moved up a day early to Thursday due to the potential of heavy rain and wind in the area on Friday from Hurricane Ian.

All games will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Thursday unless otherwise noted.

Nation Ford (1-4) at Clover (2-3)

Nation Ford got into the winning column last Friday against Richland Northeast. The trio of [player_tooltip player_id='91150' first='Carson' last='Black'], [player_tooltip player_id='1575429' first='Josh' last='Ameo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='154863' first='Jeremiah' last='Hailstock'] helped propel the Falcons to the win. They have a lot of speed and they'll want to put it all together for another four quarters. Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='202771' first='Clayton' last='Rygol'] and Braydon Flores on defense, as they are tackling machines.

Clover shut out Boiling Springs last Friday night and Sage Penninger made a huge play to prevent the Bulldogs from scoring. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Eagles lean on the run game with Elijah Farmer, Demarco Evans and [player_tooltip player_id='202768' first='Ron' last='Johnson'] to keep the ball away from Nation Ford.

Catawba Ridge (5-0) at South Pointe (4-1)

There will be no shortage of motivation for South Pointe as they return from the bye week after getting pummeled by South Florence two weeks ago. We expect Stallions quarterback Malachi Marshall to be at full strength as this offense will look to get back on the right foot with Demari Kendrick and Caleb Sims. [player_tooltip player_id='351791' first='Evan' last='Hamilton'] and Brody Teismale are two anchors to watch on the defensive front

Catawba Ridge's physical run game with [player_tooltip player_id='262619' first='Tyler' last='Jones'] and Ira Mister will present a challenge for the Stallions up front with [player_tooltip player_id='139304' first='Chris' last='Dixon'] and [player_tooltip player_id='443499' first='AJ' last='Miller']. Keep an eye on Zantawn Nelson in the secondary as well.

Lancaster (3-2) at Northwestern (4-1) – 7pm kickoff

Northwestern is coming off a bye week after a tough loss to Gaffney two weeks ago. [player_tooltip player_id='241044' first='Finley' last='Polk'], [player_tooltip player_id='265222' first='Turbo' last='Richard'] and the Trojan offense will be looking to reignite the fire they had the first few weeks after being held to 7 points. The Trojans will need to tackle better on defense with Jeremiah McDowell and the core of linebackers.

Lancaster is also coming off a loss to one of the top teams in 4A, White Knoll. The Bruins have always been known as a physical running team, and they'll try to test the front of the Trojans.

Indian Land (4-1) at York (4-1)

This is about as even of a matchup that will be played on Thursday in the area. For Indian Land, they are coming off a loss to Parkwood out of nearby Union County last week and that may have been the wake up call the Indians needed. Can Jaxon Schiedt find a consistent down field passing game to go along with a strong run game of Myles Stinson and [player_tooltip player_id='139305' first='Jaden' last='Singletary']?

For York, it's the same deal – they've got a quarterback who can run in [player_tooltip player_id='208367' first='Ayden' last='Davis'] and a running back who can also flex out and catch the ball in Javarus Gutherie. Look for Jonathan Tobias to come down hill and try to make plays against a downhill running team.

Fort Mill (0-5) at Blythewood (3-2)

Fort Mill came out of the non-region schedule winless and things won't get easier on the road to kick off region play against Blythewood. Who is going to step up for the Yellow Jackets offensively? Isaiah Haynes didn't play last week so it will be interesting to see if Colin Martin takes the reins again this week.

Blythewood took Goose Creek to the woodshed in a 49-28 win last Friday night and has done it with their defense, led by Edward Robinson who has 12 sacks and 54 tackles and [player_tooltip player_id='1157756' first='Zarion' last='Williams'] has 7 sacks. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='440461' first='Harrison' last='Collins'] threw for over 400 yards last week and has a duo of receivers to throw to in Josh Gary (28 catches, 405 yards) and Deon Tyler (18 receptions, 312 yards).

Rock Hill (1-4) at Spring Valley (2-3)

The Bearcats have some confidence going into region play with a win over Richland Northeast three weeks ago. [player_tooltip player_id='139293' first='Matthew' last='Wilson'] is one of the reasons why and he has some talent surrounding him with Demaryion Pichardo and Jamond Carothers.

But the Bearcat offense will have to deal with [player_tooltip player_id='202737' first='David' last='Wilson'], who is a tackling machine with 69 already. Look out for [player_tooltip player_id='146358' first='Zion' last='Fuller'] in the secondary and for [player_tooltip player_id='146359' first='Evan' last='Javis'] to play on offense and defense.
