Basha Bears
The Basha Bears are now 4-0 after a dominate win over Mountain View (Mesa). The Bears went up 34-3 at half time and did not let the Toros come close in the second half. Only playing 2 full quarters, junior QB Demond Williams Demond Williams 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Basha | 2024 State AZ went 9-13, 222 yards and 4 touchdowns, and even had 49 yards on the ground. Senior and Idaho commit Deshaun Buchanan Deshaun Buchanan 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Basha | 2023 State AZ contributed to the dominate ground work, adding 157 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 carries. Basha is a top 3 team this season so far. With matchups later in the year versus Hamilton and Chandler, we will see where Basha lines up in the state soon enough.
Queen Creek Bulldogs
In a game preview last week, I spotlighted the Queen Creek vs ALA QC game for the reason that the winner of the game could start their case for an Open Playoff position. The game did not disappoint, and both teams showed they are very good. Queen Creek came out hot and scored 20 in the first quarter. At half, the Bulldogs sat on a comfortable 20-0 lead. ALA QC showed their fight and showed everyone why they were the 8th best team in the state last year, storming back, only to lose a close one 27-17. Junior Diego Morales led the Queen Creek offense with 113 yards on the ground. Drew Cowart Drew Cowart 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB American Leadership Academy - QC | 2023 State AZ for ALA QC showed why he is D1 material, making plays for his team and carrying them back from a 20 point hole. Queen Creek now goes to 2-2, and if they make a run the rest of the way, will have a strong schedule to show for.
Arizona College Prep
ACP showed Friday it does not matter what section you are in, anything can happen. ACP went into Mesa High School Friday and showed that they are a legit squad with talent everywhere. Sophomore Jaxon Castro Jaxon Castro 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Arizona College Prep | 2025 State AZ showed why he was named the starting quarterback this off season, going 17-24 for 312 yards and 3 TDs. Averaging over 18 yards a completion, Diaz showed out for the Knights in a big way. Jake Hoel Jake Hoel 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Arizona College Prep | 2023 State AZ and Connar Lefevre helped Diaz out, recording over 100 yards each, with Lefevre scoring twice. ACP being a 4A school, going into Mesa (6A) would be a tall task. The Knights conquered it greatly, and I am excited to see where this takes them. Some tough teams remaining on the schedule, but ACP could win out and I would not be surprised at all.
